Summary: Actually purchased blu-ray player with sony card reward points. Worked fine without any issues, until recently. Player would shut down once movies started from the menu screen and was a compatibility issue with new blu-ray disc versions and the DTS-HD.
Summary: I own this Sont BD player along with a 46" HDTV and a Sony 7.1 Receiver. When I finally get the movie up and running, the picture is great. The problem is that it takes forever to turn on the player and open the disc tray (try that in the store before you buy) and load the movie.
Summary: You won't believe your eyes. Blu-ray is here to stay folks and this machine gives me my fix! Remember to update the firmware and learn to be patient with the slow door response and you won't be disappointed with the entertainment!
Summary: I have had this player for about a week now. I was vacillating between the S500 and the S350, but after reading countless reviews, I decided to go with the newest model hoping that Sony was able to work out all the kinks and bugs that came with the previous units.
Summary: I HAVE OWNED THIS UNIT FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND 1/2 NOW AND KNOW OF TWO OTHERS IN OPERATION FOR ABOUT THE SAME DURATION. THE UNIT IS SLOW TO LOAD, I'LL HAVE TO GIVE THE OTHER COMPLAINERS THAT, BUT ONCE YOU GET OVER THE INITIAL WAIT PERIOD, (GO DO SOMETHING ELSE UNTIL THE BEAST IS READY) THE OUTPUT IS...

Summary: All of the reviews I read regarding lengthy waiting period for blu ray movies to load is totally right. I took almost a minute from the time I turned the player on, loaded the disc and pressed play. Other than that I am totally satisfied with this machine even though it is almost years old.
Summary: I agree, this player is slow, especially when playing Blu-Ray disc. I have BDP-S1000ES, BDP-S2000ES & DVP-S7000, therefore this one fits right in. It will be playing primarly the standard DVD and occassional Blu-Ray. The front doors on the S7000 & S500 very simular movement.
