Good player, when it works (see updates for streaming)
21 January 2012
Summary: Original Review: I have the Sony BDP-S470 on my main TV and it's fantastic. I decided to add Blu-Ray to my secondary TV which doesn't get used as often. Decided to save a few bucks and get a cheaper model this time. I figured since it was a Sony that the quality would be the same. Boy was I wrong. This player looks great but the streaming is just awful. I have this wired off the same modem as my primary player and it is just much, much slower.
Summary: Frankly, I am sorely disappointed. It does not deliver on its promise. I cannot view Netflix without the movies freezing. I never had that problem with the LG that I bought. I look forward to the other features it and my daughter touted about. I have not seen any of the features my daughter has on hers. She has the same one. I have a lot of internet problems. It does not automatic download updates and frankly I can't find where to go to see if it is updated.
Maybe Good, Maybe Bad - It Depends What You're Looking For

Summary: This Sony Blu-Ray player is paired with a Panasonic Vizio HDTV and competes with a Vizio TV elsewhere in our home; we've had the player for approximately 3 months and have the latest firmware installed (June 15, 2011). All three devices serve us Netflix, all fairly reliably. The Sony does a great job with Blu-Ray disks, not giving us any difficulty and providing quick start-up, great clarity, and convenient controls.
Summary: I bought this not only as a Blu-Ray player but also in the hope that it could serve as an interface to both Netflix and Amazon VOD. I have had prior experience streaming the video on both services using PC's, Mac's, and Roku boxes. I thought the Sony might be a good way to combine the Blu-Ray experience and streaming. This hope did not prove out.
Summary: I had to send the first player back, as it kept stopping and starting, Amazon was really good, replaced it within 2 weeks of reporting it, unfortunately the second Sony blu-ray player is doing exactly the same!! but this time worse. trying to find a customer service for Sony, to my surprise I am finding hard to get one.
Summary: Nice quality picture and sound for the money, however quite flimsy in feel - and worst of all it makes an annoying high pitched whining noise during BD playback. Reading the other comments this seems to be a common problem so I returned mine for a refund and ordered a different model. This was my first return to Amazon and they were fantastic - no hassle and very prompt refund. Gives you confidence in buying again from them in future.
Summary: Sony BDP-S370 - Superb picture and audio. Ridiculously noisy high pitched driver that you cannot ignore. 3 bought with same problems. All sent back. Sony BDP-S380 - Same excellent picture and audio, but with exactly the same noisy high pitched driver, only this time it clunks and clicks every few seconds on playback which is too loud to ignore. Also has a much much slower start up. 2 bought, both returned. Have Sony BDP-S350 and brother has S360 with no noise problems.
