Excerpt: The Sony BDP-S350 BluRay player is one of the better, under-$300 BluRay players on the market, for my money. Compared to the others that I had tried, and the ones my friends have, this BluRay player has nothing to worry about from the competition for the time being.
Excerpt: I bought this Blu-ray player in November 2009 and have used it off and on ever since. I won't tell you I am a big user of Blu-ray/DVD players, I am casual at best. However, I must say I am quite impressed with the picture quality of the Blu-ray movies as compared to televised movies in high definition. The player also upscaled DVDs so they look a little better than you would see on a cheapo DVD player (but not as good as Blu-ray).
Excerpt: I bought this Sony S350 Blu-Ray DVD player for my husband the Christmas before last. We were amazed at the image quality of the Blu-Ray movies. It trumps the HD channels on TV. So we were very happy with that aspect of it. However, the Blu-Ray DVD's take a lot longer to load than normal DVD's. And we've had some trouble navigating through the movie once it's playing (such as chapter selection, menu options, etc.).
Summary: We have had our Sony blue ray disc player for just over a year. We played maybe 7 discs on the player. During the 7th movie it froze and an error message came up saying no disc. Try as we might we could not get the machine to work again. A HUGE waste of money!!!! Buyer beware!!!! Sony will not stand behind this product.
Pros: Great picture before it ceases to recognize your blue ray discs.
Summary: I had no problems at all with this player for two years, but then it developed the often-mentioned inability to read Blu-ray discs. It plays regular DVDs fine. I spoke with tech support and they took me through the steps described in most of the posts here and elsewhere: update firmware, re-boot, see if it plays other Blu-ray discs, etc. (all of which I already had done) before conceding that my only option was to send it in for repairs.
Summary: This Blu Ray so picture quality is obviously good. The setup menu is pretty and works well. Adjusting settings whilst watching a disk is also easy. The AV sync is often wrong but at least you can modify it easily. What's not so good is that almost every disk doesn't permit you to resume watching after stopping. What's even worse is that, 16 months after buying it, it suddenly ceased working whilst watching a Blu Ray disk. It just stopped reading disk.
Summary: I was really excited to get this home and add it to my home theater. I find the menu silly, it is slow to boot movies, the picture thru my Sharp 9000 high def projector is average. I used a samsung upconverting dvd player before which had better sound and just as good a picture as the Blue ray. I think I will hand this one off to a familly member or another room and try a different model .
Summary: Picture is excellent for the blu-ray discs. The most impressive feature is the upconvert of a standard DVD. Seems to increase them to about a 750p. Impressive. Starting up and setting is slow, you must answer 3 queries to get going. The picture quality is worth it.
Summary: Comments about Sony BDP-S350 Blu-ray Disc Player: [...] HMDI connection a plus, Remote saves grabbing others. Upgraded firmware from .07 to .019 via Sony Disk, no problem. Sleek design, and quality picture. For me the BD Live USB is not something I will use. Sony advised me you can only use a long flash drive, and only content from BR Live will be accessed by the unit.
Pros: Easy Set-Up, Excellent Image Quality, Good Connections, Upgradeable
