  • Conclusion: Sony's least-expensive Blu-ray Disc player isn't a speed demon, but it delivers solid detail and a pleasing viewing experience.
  • Pros: Plays JPEG and MP3 files on DVDs. Supports 24-Hz output with Blu-ray movies. Provides basic picture control settings and presets.
  • Cons: Slow disc load times with some Blu-ray movies. No 24-Hz output with DVD video. No bitstream audio output (HDMI).

Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray Player Review

6 November 2007
  • Conclusion: If you're looking for an entry level Blu-ray player and either aren't worried about deinterlacing or aren't planning on using the unit for upconverting DVDs then perhaps this is the unit for you. Without Dolby TrueHD or any of the HD DTS decoding though you're going to have to upgrade the unit if you'd like to take advantage of the increase fidelity those formats offer.
  • Pros: Price - one of the lowest on the market, Easy setup
  • Cons: NO DOLBY TrueHD OR DTS HD DECODING, Long startup time, Unresponsive remote and interface, Lackluster upconversion ability, No SACD support
