Excerpt: Blu-Ray players have finally reached the sub $500 price point and it comes from Sony. Significant because that means it’s finally less than the Playstation 3 which itself has a Blu-Ray disc player. This player is equipped with full 1080p high definition video playback in 24 frames per second (the same rate as film) for faithful playback of your movies.
Sony Connectivity & Quality: Sony BDP S300 Blu-ray Player
Personal Electronics buzz

Excerpt: Imagine my surprise when I purchased a state of the art Sony HDTV 1080p with Blu-ray capability and the retailer threw in a Sony BDP S300 Blu-ray disc player. Am I a pig in clover? It just shows to go-where there are "scaredy cat" merchants-there are good deals.
Summary: This is a unit that we would buy for ourselves if it weren’t for the fact that we couldn’t make it region free, because we have a huge DVD collection with movies from regions 1 and 4. If you are going to play only region-free (“region 0”) or region 1 discs then this unit is a great pick, especially because its cost/benefit ratio: great price and excellent image quality for DVDs – if the relative slowness of this unit doesn’t bother you.
Conclusion: If you're looking for an entry level Blu-ray player and either aren't worried about deinterlacing or aren't planning on using the unit for upconverting DVDs then perhaps this is the unit for you. Without Dolby TrueHD or any of the HD DTS decoding though you're going to have to upgrade the unit if you'd like to take advantage of the increase fidelity those formats offer.
Pros: Price - one of the lowest on the market, Easy setup
Cons: NO DOLBY TrueHD OR DTS HD DECODING, Long startup time, Unresponsive remote and interface, Lackluster upconversion ability, No SACD support
Excerpt: While the PS3 remains a top-notch Blu-ray player with video game capability thrown in as an extra feature (do I hear groans from Sony marketing?), there are plenty of us who would rather have a dedicated BD player in the house than a game console. The BDP-S300 is an important product, and gives Blu-ray some much needed traction in the affordable Blu-ray player category.
Excerpt: A good friend of mine was kind enough to drop by and allow me to check out his new Sony BDP-S300 ($499) Blu-ray player. You know me, check out turned into a five and a half hour review. Sony’s BDP-S300 at $499 has sparked a fair amount of interest among those who have, thus far, remained on the sidelines of the hi-def disc battle.
