Summary: this unit requires a download of the latest firmware to play blu-ray dvd.s... not as fast as blu-ray players after the blu-ray vs hd-dvd format war...video and audio quality of playback of 1080p,720p,480p,and 480i dvd.s are excellent...am very happy with this unit.
Summary: This item can be found for a steep discount(less than 475 usd). The quality and 5 year parts and labor warranty are the advantages of paying more than the minimum to get blue ray tech. Great engineering does not come cheap and Sony is the best engineering value in electronics for my money.
Summary: First of all, let me say the video output of the S2000ES is first rate. However, for the price, it should be. It does a great job on both Blu-Ray and standard DVD's. I did, however, have to do a firm-ware update to get it to run some of the new Java menus. It is a slow machine both on boot-up and disc loading. Having said all of this, I still would have given it five stars. Here is the problem. It does not decode DTS-Master Audio.
Summary: The high definition picture is a real delight and even startling the first time viewing it because of the quality. The player is very easy to use. I would highly recommend it. You will be extremely delighted espeaially when using a high quality large high definition monitor.
Summary: The picture quality of this player is outstanding. However, on first purchase it had some distortion in the sound of one channel, wouldn't load discs on occasion, and very slow. We sent it back, got it serviced. We got the machine back and a couple months later it completely quit working. We returned it again and Sony sent us a refurbished unit. This one is starting to skip now when playing CDs. Oh Well, Guess we'll try again. It's only a $1300 machine.
Summary: This Blu-ray player does NOT have the latest surround sound ability (DTS HD Master Audio). As a home theater super-enthusiast, I am going to wait for the next generation from Sony that has the latest surround sound format. Still a 5-star BR player, but I'm surprised Sony didn't add in the latest surround sound ability!
Summary: If you want the top on the line blu-ray player the Sony S2000ES is the one to get. Extremely well made...there is a reason why the ES line has a 5 year parts and labor warranty and others are just 1 year. Having owned other Sony ES line players I have always been impressed with the picture and build quality. I have always found the ES line worth paying more for and this player is no exception.
You want the best? You got it for Blu-Ray, anyway!

Summary: I had no idea what "perfection" of "perfect" would be, but after years of using blu-ray on sub-par players like the Samsung and the Playstation 3 (not a bad player, and it doubles as a great game system, to boot!), I was looking for a player that was faster, cooler, and did not use Bluetooth as a remote (like the PS3..
