Summary: I got this because I figured I would be moving to blue ray soon but mostly I wanted a player that could play Amazon prime video streaming. Pandora works well on it, not sure how Netflix works on it, Blu-Ray looks awesome, but when it comes to Amazon, I'm not sure what the problem is but at various times in freaking numerous videos will get stuck showing that it's loading, but never does then asks if I want to reload the video altogether and then it starts from the...
Summary: My six year old roku box died recently so I bought this to replace it thinking it would be nice to have a blu ray player. The internet applications like netflix are pretty poor and the picture quality is downright awful. It was supposed to be an upgrade but in fact I am very sorry I bought it. No reflection on the seller. It was shipped fast with good packaging. The seller did a good job.
Summary: I was real happy when I first got this player as it was replacing a 3 year old Samsung player. Then I got "Hyde Park on the Hudson" the first day it came out and it would not play on the Sony but it played fine on the Samsung. I checked the firmware and I am on the most recent version, so that is not the problem. Then it would not play disc 4 of season 5 of "True Blood" but it played the first 3 discs.
Summary: I gave this device along with a year subscription to Netflix to my parents for their combined Birthdays... My Children watch Netflix on their Xbox and Wii respectively and I watch on my Laptop, Kindle Fire and PS3 so I know what a smooth interface looks like and while I like some systems better than others the Interface used between this device, its remote control, and Netflix, is CLUMSY to put it mildly and God forbid you need to rewind (good luck).
Summary: Unfortunately, the first unit I received was defective. Sony was good about sending a return replacement. Probably because it is a low price end for a Blu Ray player, you should note it lacks a screen to show the track playing, when the tray is open, etc. But for the price I cannot complain. My main problem is that for some reason it will not start playing when the tray is closed. I run it with an HDMI cord to a receiver and then the TV.
Summary: I purchased the BDP-S185 on impulse right before Xmas to go with my new Samsung 40" flat screen. I was immediately impressed. The menu system and functionality of the "smart" features really blew-away the Samsung Smart TV. So, I went and got a BDP-S580 for my in-laws (they needed wireless). Got to their house and gave it to them for Xmas. Installed it, and Netflix just wouldn't stream. Play for 2 min., pause, retrieve content for 1 minute.
Summary: While using the internet movie streaming it offers, it freezes up after a few minutes. We bought this at Walmart, cause it also had Netflix and Hulu Plus streaming. When it freezes, you will have to unplug and replug the device to get your dvd or blu ray out, just in case you decided to watch one. Gonna take ours back to Walmart and get our money back.
