Summary: Refurbished and seems like new but when you start using it, it just doesn't work! I guess maybe I was the unlucky one who received a bad unit. When I tried to return it, I was told that the 30 day return period had expired and all I could do was pay $15 each way for shipping for a repair! Very unhappy.
Summary: This is a piece of garbage. I've had mine for about six months and plan on returning it when I have the free time. It often lags or is interrupted, and my connection speed is over 20 mbps. My girlfriend has an LG blu-ray player, she has a much slower connection, and her streaming is perfect. From what I've read, the Netflix feature is an ongoing problematic issue with Sony products. Buy an LG instead.
Summary: Does not have Built In WIFI My search was specific, Blu-Ray player with built in wifi. This was option #7. Sweet price, the new ones had decent reviews. I bought. It shipped. I unpacked and went to set up, under Internet, it asks to be wired. No availability for wifi. Thank you seller, for mis-catagorizing your product!
Summary: We like Sony products, always have. Unfortunately the Sony Blu Ray Player BDP-S185 is a negative exception. We bought it in Feb '12 and used it for about 8 months without any problems (streaming worked fine too). Then it just stopped turning on. Sometimes we could get it to turn on but not every time. I called Sony and they gave me an address to ship it back (paying my own shipping of course).
Summary: one year after buying this, it's having to be replaced. It rarely reads disks (bluray or DVD), it has constant "handshake" issues with other components that our other dvd and blu ray players haven't had, the butotns on the top of this Sony are "caving" in like they were installed improperly and are now sunk into the player making the remote the only way to control the device. Total crap. Do not waste your time.
Summary: This is one product that you should really pay attention to when it comes to bad reviews. I purchased one of these things this evening at a local Best Buy and brought it home. I figured the people that had problems with it were just not familiar with technology, or were picking nits. This is not the case. This player is awful. The Blue Ray portion of this device is ok at best. It wont win any awards, but it's not horrible.
Summary: This thing plays movies and that's about it. I tried watching a movie on Netflix and Vudu and nothing that is required to get on the internet plays. First thing I did was do the firmware update. So I know the player connects to the internet and downloads content. All I get when clicking on a menu choice is "checking internet connection" and then it goes back to the menu. I did network setup 4 times.
Summary: Using this unit is unbearable. I am a big fan of streaming instant video, so I use Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, etc. I made the swap from a PS3, so I had a generally positive experience with Sony products, as well as their ability to stream content from the Internet. I ran a wired connection to the blu ray player, and have run network diagnostics tests a thousand times.
Summary: I just received this Blu-Ray player yesterday, got all of updates done and everything set up to watch Amazon Instant. Then I tried to insert a disk and the player won't open! After an afternoon of trying and calling Sony, I now have to ship the player off and just wait for them to send me a new one. I was very pleased with this device until it wouldn't fulfill its most basic function, and now I have to wait who knows how long for a new one.
