Summary: I usually don't buy used electronic equipment, but this DVD player was the exception this time. Since I did not want to pay a lot for a player I decided to purchase one that was used. I read most of the reviews and they were positive and decided to try buying a used player. We already own a SONY HD TV and have had good good experiences with it. So far the Sony Blue Ray DVD has delivered as well. Sony makes good electronics regardless of the type and style.
Summary: Awesome media player, plays mp4 files on a loop all day, very easy to use. This was one of the last players made with more than a HDMI output, it also has composite, why would you want composite? Well I use this for event playback and if I have a bad HDMI cable ( No that never happens) I have a backup source, not as good, but the show must go on. Very reliable for file playback, I don't know about the BluRay part, I never use that.
Summary: I bought this blu-ray player for my system downstairs hoping that it worked because I didn't want to spend much money on it. I am gladly surprised with it. The only down is that it doesn't have a wireless connection for the internet apps, but for the price I paid, it's a great value!
Summary: Let's face it, you'd almost have to try to get a blue ray player that doesn't provide a great picture. While this unit is extremely compact and light-weight (simply closing the DVD tray will move the unit), it's a Sony - and it behaves like one. Nothing too fancy here, but if you need a cheap replacement or an extra unit for the kids or guest room, this one foots the bill.
Summary: Great player with left and right audio outs. A bit flimsy but I have seen worse. Be careful if you are playing movies off of a hard drive though. It is limited in what formats it will play through the USB port.
Summary: Got it as a Christmas present. I finally got around to setting it up" we had a baby born on Christmas eve so it wasn't a priority" and it wont play DVD's. Now I am stuck because I am out of the return window.
Summary: Do yourself a favor...and spend a few minutes searching 'Sony Netflix streaming problems'. Netflix is completely unwatchable on my Sony BDP-S185. Constant buffering freezes, 0.6 to 0.8 M download speed, horrible video quality. All this despite a 20+M internet connection at my house, verified with speedtest.net and other tests. Calls to Sony have them pointing the finger at your settings, your ISP, sunspots, anything and everything but their device. Well, gee, Sony..
Summary: I got this machine specifically because I wanted to hook it up to older RCA composite video and audio connections without having to buy expensive adapter boxes. And also because I might use it with HDMI. It works flawlessly. I get a machine with the flexibility of format (DVD, BluRay) and connection.
