Summary: Bought this for my mother in law for christmas to simplify her setup. I was a little worried about the factory refurbish. But when it came it looked brand new. I was very bummed out to find that the system does not have a built in wifi reciever (my fault for buying one without) so after buyimg and installing a 100 foot ethernet to run to the modem i was feeling a little better.
Summary: It looks great and acts great. My only problem, and for me it's a big one, is that the subtitles don't work. I'm hard of hearing and was happy to see the subtitle button on the remote as well as in the options menu. Unfortunately, that's just for show. I looked it up online and apparently, that's just the way it is. No one can get it to work. So yeah, it's a great price, but don't think you're getting everything you need.
Fantastic Starter/First Blu-ray player - has issues minor issue with DVDs

Summary: Great little player that works well for the general Blu-ray. Overall works fine. It does not have wireless/WiFi capabilities so if that is important to you, you do not want this player. I've had a few issues, but am overall satisfied with this as a refurbished product. Here are the minor issues I've experienced. When watching DVDs the sound occasionally stops for a few seconds, but isn't too obnoxious. It bothers me, but my relatives hardly notice it.
I checked if it was the cable and the cable was good. I assume this is an isolated problem though

Summary: Seems to have an issue at the HDMI output. I have to wiggle it to make it work most of the time. I checked if it was the cable and the cable was good. I assume this is an isolated problem though. When it does work it does it's job well.
Summary: It did not come with a cable or cloth as noted in the product description. This was a disappointment since it was meant as a gift and instead of using the extra money to buy a Blu-ray, they had to use it to buy an hdmi cable instead.
Summary: Some of the buttons on this unit broke almost as soon as I got it but the remote still works. It's only frozen up playing a disk once and unplugging it reset the unit and it worked fine. As I'm an infrequent Blu Ray watcher, this unit does the job.
If you have a satisfactory DVD player don't waste your money on this one

Summary: I bought this player to replace a Philips DVP642 DivX(region free too), which I bought 5/2005 for $60 at Amazon. The Philips is still working fine - no problem whatsoever. I simply thought it's about time to get a new one and of course I expected to get - at least a slightly better picture. Blue-rays are said to deliver a better picture quality, but .... NO difference - absolutely none. HDMI connection on the Sony Blue-ray makes no difference either.
Summary: It was difficult to get the player to do what it was supposed to do - play a CD. The set-up is not self explanatory and until you get it set-up, it will not accept a disc to play. After I contacted the Sony support line, and they told me the "trick" to getting it setup (I think you have to depress and hold the "Off" button for 20 seconds), then enter the data requested, the unit worked fine.
Works as advertised and very nice for the price, but not perfect

Summary: I wanted three things in a blu ray player for the bedroom: -a low price -all the streaming apps I want -the ability to play all region discs This Sony qualifies across the board. However, I've docked it one star each for two different issues: 1) Switching regions requires a manual process involving the remote buttons when you turn the player on.
