Summary: I would recommend this Blu-ray player to anybody who wants a decent Blu-ray experience for a cheap price. It does take the player a moment to load a movie, but it's really not that bad. It also makes some loud loading noises, but other than that, I love it. I have also hooked my external hard drive up to the USB port on the player so as to watch my downloaded movies. I actually really like this player!
Summary: ...after all, it works really well, when it works. The problem is that for some reason it will insist that I have no Internet, when in fact I do. It's direct wired to my modem so wifi isn't the problem. There's nothing to do but unplug it to do a cold boot. That's kind of a pain, given that it's plugged in behind a large, heavy cabinet.
Summary: I bought this for my parents last year for Christmas. Unfortunately, they didn't try to use it till the other day. The Blu-ray player worked for about 15 minutes and now won't play Blu-Ray's at all. To get it fixed will cost the price of a new one. That is the last time I buy a Sony Product.
Summary: I bought this product at bestbuy. It works great for the price if you do not use it via wifi. It does have a disclaimer on the box that states at least 2.5 Mbps recommended (10 Mbps for HD). The range away from my wifi appears to affect this device. Eventhough it connect it doesn't perform well. Additionally, changing the wifi settings doesn't appear to function well.
Summary: Let me start by saying that I have three of these units. I use them for streaming content from Hulu, Netflix and Amazon as well as occasionally watch a DVD/Blue Ray. It is a cheap blue ray player and works well for that. However, if you plan on using any internet streaming features, buy a non-sony product.
After upgrading firmware, it does not recognize Blu-ray and DVD discs
Dead Cow, Amazon
12 March 2012
Summary: After installing a Sony-pushed upgrade of firmware, my unit now does not recognize any discs. I've spent hours with customer service, resetting the unit, tweaking settings, and it still doesn't work. I have become accustomed to Apple's upgrades on Mac, iPhone, and iPad working without a hitch. Sony's upgrade has reduced my blu-ray player to a paperweight that plays YouTube. If you own this unit, don't upgrade the firmware.
Summary: Sony. Very disappointed. The Box says "Wireless LAN Ready". I don't expect to have to read the micro-print that says USB Wireless Adapter Required. HELLOOOO Sony???, USB is not Wireless. Your player is "USB" ready. Not "Wireless LAN" Boo on you. No streaming on-line TV tonight.
