Sharp Aquos BDHP21U - bad decision

ak, Amazon
26 December 2010
  • Summary: This is a horrible Blu-Ray player. Did not play most of the formats it was suppoesed to play. Very slow! Problems with palying Blu-Rays (and yes I did install the latest firmware), normal DVD's, R+/R-.... Worked ok for music only CD's. The Blu-Ray player did break after 3 1/2 month!

Even as a gift... Unacceptable!

GumboCook, Amazon
16 November 2010
  • Summary: Last Christmas I received this unit as a gift. The two blu-ray movies inluded as part of my gift were not playable. About half of the Netflix blu-ray disks take about 5 to 10 minutes to load and most are not playable.

Not happy

Gary, Amazon
12 October 2010
  • Summary: I am very unhappy with Bluray. I got the Sharp Aquos TV and matching player and they won't play about 20 percent of the movies I want to watch including Avatar. Apparently I am supposed to "update the firmware"! Well I don't have the internet at home.

You do not want this DVD player

Mark Ramsey, Amazon
30 September 2010
  • Summary: First of all, this device is no longer supported by Sharp. Meaning their firmware updates (which seem to be required constantly) are spotty. The last one was months ago, and I just dropped in a new BluRay disc, got all the way through the trailers, and watched a black screen for minutes on end as...

Great...when it works.

US PhotoGuy, Amazon
5 October 2009
  • Summary: This blu-ray player is awesome, when it works. I've had a few movies that are very difficult to play, and some that won't play at all...most are not problematic. Last night, however, I tried to watch "Interview with the Vampire" and not only would it not play, because it was an "incompatible...

Extremely Slow on Some Discs

J. Lex Thomas, Amazon
26 August 2009
  • Summary: I received this unit through a special purchase at a non-Amazon dealer and I am extremely unhappy with it. I bought the Blu-Ray release of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse which has forced trailers at the beginning as many discs do now.

Piece of Junk

rfors "rfors", Amazon
30 April 2009
  • Summary: I bought this player in early February 2009. For the first few weeks it worked fine, although it was very slow (2-3 minutes) to load a DVD. Then it wouldn't play anything. I'd put a disc in and it would whir around for a few minutes and then say "cannot operate" and spit it out.

ok dvd player. and that's about it.

wolf "wolf", Amazon
5 April 2009
  • Summary: just a lousy product. updates don't make it better. I returned mine for service, all they did was 'update firmware' and return it as defective as before. to sell defective products, and back them up with defective service, is unacceptable. there are many complaints about this item.

not very impressed

M. Evans, Amazon
31 March 2009
  • Summary: i know it's new technology, but it's not THAT new. i've just run into the second bluray disc from 20th century fox that this player won't play. firmware upgrade was a waste of my time. would also be nice if the player kept your place in the movie when you power down.

Unbelievable Mediocrity

J. Kaye, Amazon
28 March 2009
  • Summary: Wow I am shocked they'd put such a bad product into the market. Nearly every disc -- even ones with no visual scratches or smudges at all -- skips. Frequent freezes and resets. Excrutiatingly slow.
