Summary: Most of the reviews for this product were written back in 2009. Its really easy to rate a product when it is new, but what about when it gets older? How does it hold up? Well, mine hasn't held up terribly well, and I am getting sick of products that have a 2 year shelf life. I'm not sure why manufacturers are racing to the bottom with all the money we spend. I bought this unit in January 2009, and I was happy as a clam.
Summary: Unit failed to play blu-ray after 11 months. This was their top of the line unit when i bought it. Will play DVD and the other functions with little problem once the system is configured. Config was a chore however. I don't think I even watched 10 Blu-rays before that function failed. I called customer service but was 15 days past the 1 year warranty and was told I could send it to one of their authorized repair shops. This would cost $75 just to have them look at it.
Pros: I love that it has Pandora, YouTube and Netflix built in. Wish it came with a keyboard input!
Cons: I just received HUGO in Bluray as a gift and it is the second bluray that this infernal machine won't play. This is the 2nd bluray that wont play on this unit. Fortunatly the set comes with a regular DVD but That is not what we paid $26 for.
Summary: I bought this based off of favorable reviews that this was a fast blu-ray player. This is my first BD player so not sure what the norm is but my opinion is that the load times are aggravatingly slow. And the player would freeze randomly too. Definitely disappointed.
Summary: Bought in Fall 2009 to complement a large Samsung plasma. Sound and video quality are very good. But it is hard to compare blueray quality because pretty much every bluray player works very well in this aspect. It can connect to internet using bundled wireless or via ethernet. Can connect to Netflix, Pandora, Blockbuster and Youtube. Does not have any other apps. It can connect to a PC on WinXP but not to a NAS (Network Attached Storage).
Summary: This player is power off by itself in the middle of movie and couldn't be turned on again with remote or button on the unit. The problem happened several months ago. I googled and found it may be over-heat issue. I checked the fan, it is working. No clue how to fix. Decided to bug different player. I bought this player 1+ year ago after good reviews on amazon. I checked this player review again. The rating on this player is pretty bad.
Summary: Just a little over the year warranty and the disc drive goes bad. Samsung won't give an estimate of repair costs and seems unwilling to really do anything. I'm not sending in an item for repair without some sort of cost estimate. The want me to give them a credit card.... why would anybody in their right mind hand over a credit card # without an estimate? The firmware updates and UI on this model were clunky at best.
