Summary: I purchased this as a family Christmas gift and until last week was satisfied. That was before the latest firmware download crashed the unit. My advice to anyone seeking BluRay: Be prepared to deal with firmware! I was hoping some technology would come along to eliminate this but I fear we are stuck with it. I accepted this fact and went ahead with the purchase but caution buyers to WATCH OUT! If you decide to go ahead and buy a player this one is a fine purchase.
Summary: I purchased this unit for use with a Samsung HL-61A750 television, and for most Blu Ray discs, it produces stunning results. It even does a very good job of upscaling DVD material. However, there are some very real quirks that keep me from recommending this unit to others: Disc load times are sometimes painfully slow, especially if you're used to a DVD player, or even a PS3. (Samsung has addressed this in their latest generation of Blu Ray players.
Summary: I bought this player expecting a great quality HD experience, good upscaling of standard def DVD's, and the ability to stream Netflix movies without technical glitches. This product did 1 thing really well, one thing so-so, and one terribly. The BP-P2500 does play Blu-Ray discs really well. The video quality and audio are absolutely stunning. However, if the disc has the SLIGHTEST scratch, you can kiss the movie goodbye because it won't play.
Summary: I picked up this unit to be my new primary blu-ray player, largely due to the improved SD upconversion and the netflix streaming feature. I have to say the video quality is superb and netflix streaming is convenient and high-quality. However, even though I'm using the latest firmware (v2.4) I'm running into some serious issues. First, if you have the player setup for 24 fps (which my pioneer plasma can accept) it works fine with blu-rays.
Summary: Pros: ===== + Great Blu-Ray picture + Netflix support + Recent firmware updates (despite Samsung, according to Cnet, having a reputation of poor firmware support) + Amazing audio support + Blu-Ray 2.0 compliant + Well designed menus and clear manual Cons: ===== + Slow load time (gets more annoying the more movies you watch) + Horrible format support for non-Blu-Ray discs. This device can't even play MP3s or JPG photo-discs. Are you KIDDING?!
Summary: I received this item yesterday, and immediately connected it to the internet so that I could update the firmware to get the netflix update. The "update" menu said the firmware was up to date. Then there was the 1 hour of phone calls and chats to samsung and netflix to try to get it to work. samsung has a text chat with people who are very slow and not knowledgeable.
Excerpt: I bought this Blu Ray player because I was looking for a budget blu ray player that also upscales regular DVDs. Unfortunately, I have not noticed any difference between watching a dvd using a dvd player and the apparent upscaling of this blu ray player, despite changing the screen size from 16:9 to 4:3. If anything, all it did was make the screen size smaller. However, playing blu rays brings out the High definition capabilities of my television incredible well.
BD-P2500 a bargin of a blu-ray player if you can pick one up
27 July 2010
Excerpt: This is a second generation Blu-ray player that came out in 2008 so as far as players go its getting a little old (only a little mind!) we got this because a well known Hi-fi chain is selling blu-ray players quite cheap and we got this one for an amazing £59! not only is that cheap for a blu-ray player but was also a mid range model so its even more of a bargain.
Pros: High quailty upscaling on DVD ` s, can be got quite cheap
