Summary: I have owned my unit for about 18 months by this point. Mostly I stream Netflix movies and occasionally watch Blu-ray discs from Netflix. The streaming element has been very temperamental from the very beginning. The unit receives a wired ethernet connection from my router (receiving high speed cable internet), and I connect it to my TV throught HDMI. Not long after I purchased the unit I noticed that occasionally when I started streaming I had only sound and no video.
Summary: I bought this blu-ray disc player as a present for my husband. We had it one year and three months when it decided to no longer read blu-ray disks. (I find this ridiculous.) Samsung customer service was less than helpful. After reading other reviews, it is beginning to look as if this might just be a case of built-in obsolescence. Be warned. Needless to say, Samsung just lost another customer.
Summary: After installing the summer 09 firmware update, we saw a notice on the screen that the Netflix keys had been hacked. That wasn't true. But what was true was that the firmware update is seriously flawed and Samsung knows but has failed to issue a fix even now, several months later. We were told this week it would be probably two more months. As a result, we cannot play the Netflix movies instantly.
Summary: This unit is wonderful when it works, however..... Despite software upgrades being installed, it has a propensity to lock up. It started shortly after purchase, but was very intermittant, and seemed to get better with software upgrades - although may have been perception. Now it is much worse. When it does lockup, it will not play or eject your disc. The only soution appears to be to go away for an hour, and then you may get your disc back.
Summary: The Samsung worked well for the first few months - picture quality and sound were excellent. I bought it in February 2009 and by July I started having trouble playing blu ray discs. The picture would freeze about 20 minutes into the disc. Sometimes I could fast forward to continue the movie, but sometimes not. Samsung tech support suggested I reset the player by pressing and holding the fast forward button. This fixed the problem for about a week.
Summary: I own a PS3 and this DVD player. Now that the PS3 is down to $299 there is no contest. To be honest, had I known what I know now, I would have paid $399 for the PS3 at the time. This DVD player just isn't quite there. When it works it works pretty well, but it has problems with LOTS of DVD's that my PS3 plays without any trouble whatsoever. The PS3 is an ELEGANT solution for DVDs and I don't really even game, I just use the PS3 as my DVD player.

Summary: I purchased this product for my husband's birthday in February. Loved it at first. Great picture and sound - easy set up. Within a few weeks noticed that the player would stop responding during movies (both bluray & dvd) to the remote control and the panel controls. Looked on the support site and upgraded firmware as instructed. When this didnt work, I contacted tech support.
Summary: We had been looking for a blu-ray player for some time and finally bought this since it streamed netflix. It lasted all of 2 days. Initial signs were not good. When it arrived, it was double boxed but there was only 1 piece of crumpled paper between the two boxes (no peanuts etc.)- the inner box was free to slide inside the outer box! In addition, the inner box was upside down in relation to the outer box!
Summary: I purchased this over the Sony due to load times and the Netflix streaming feature. I loved everything about it except the unlit remote. I purchased in December and by March it wasn't playing regular DVDs. Of course it is out of warranty (90 day labor) and Samsung will charge another 85.00 to repair. Customer support hasn't been any help and hasn't even offerd an apology.
Summary: I just let my BD-P2550 run the Samsung firmware upgrade process that it has been requesting each time I turn it on for the past few weeks. The process appeared to go normally (download went just fine, verification went just fine, update went just fine, and it turned itself off as it has after previous successful upgrades). However, when I turned it back on afterward, it became apparent that it has bricked itself.
