Summary: I do NOT recommend this product! Only reason I kept it is because the problems started right after the Return Date had passed (figures). I'm on Disability so I'm stuck with this junk.
Pros: The remote:, One of the best: illuminated keys, nice layout, lots of features.
Cons: Freezes OFTEN!, No buttons work. Must unplug 10 minutes to fully reset the unit to work properly., Unit Door:, Useless design feature., Need to leave door open so the disk tray can slide open., The Text Display:, Hard to see --poorly designed.
Summary: I am sort of a bright, techie guy. I love to get new stuff, and when this came out at such a low price, I had to try it. But every moment of using this piece of electronics has made me wish I could trade it in.
Pros: It will play BluRay.
Cons: Worst remote I have ever owned. Requires line of site, and the button placement and colors are misleading and confusing.
Summary: I've never taken the time to write a review for Amazon before; but then, I've never purchased a worse quality product than this player. As I type this, my wife is disconnecting the unit for return to Amazon - FOR THE SECOND TIME IN TWO WEEKS. Yes, that's right. One arrived (super fast delivery by Amazon, I might add), worked briefly, then froze up. (Read other reviews for specifics - mine did the same thing.
Summary: I ignored the negative reviews of the Samsung BD-P1600 - BIG MISTAKE! The player worked for about 5 minutes before becoming unresponsive. I called Samsung Tech Support which confirmed I'd have to return it for repair after trying to reset it multiple times with their on-phone instructions. The unit powers up and the display reads "LOAD" and becomes unresponsive from that point on. You cannot get to a menu, the only thing it lets you do is to turn it off.
WARNING MAY NOT WORK: Samsung BD-P1600 Has Known Lockup Issue
8 June 2010
Summary: Purchased this as secondary Blu-Ray player for bedroom; wanted something that did NetFlix streaming. Set-up and plugged into home network, was immediately prompted to update firmware, which I did. (Have no idea if it worked before that as it was turned on and the first screen shown is firmware update.) It took several tries (kept getting stuck at various download points), but was eventually successful (third try?). Completed set-up (entered menu settings, etc.
Started of so good...but beware the firmware update!!!

Summary: It all started in the summer of 2009. When I bought the player I was thrilled. Blu-Ray, Netflix, Youtube for under $150? How could this be bad? Sure it wasn't the top of the line, but it did everything! Popped in a copy of Harry Potter - looked great. How about Superman? Very nice. Netflix - not problem. It was an everyday Office marathon. Then came the first firmware update. Blockbuster shows up on the player - that is fine, I don't use the service, but whatever.
Summary: My sad experience began on mid August 15, 2009. I ordered a Samsung Blu-Ray BD-P1600 Player from Andrew Electronics. It arrived in a few days, but did not work properly through the HDMI connection. I spent several hours making sure the problem was with the player and then contacted Andrew who promptly E-mailed a shipping label to me so that I could return the unit. Andrew sent a replacement that arrived within a week.

Summary: I chose this blu-ray based on the excellent CNET editor eviews. What I didn't notice was how many REAL PEOPLE had problems. It played once out of the box; over the next day we tried 4 different disks both new, perfect BR and older, traditional DVD. None would play. The disk goes in, the display reads either "closed" or "loading" and then nothing happens. I later found, via google, that this is a very common failure for the Samsung. I suggest you try another make/model.
Summary: OK, if you do a simple google search re this player and "firmware" you should get an idea of just how unreliable it is. Samsung is releasing firmware versions almost once a month trying to fix the constant problems A LOT of buyers are having with this player, myself included. Problems include extremely unreliable Netflix playability (unreliable streaming, drop outs, inability to resume playing after stopping) unreliable Pandora playability (streaming stops by itself...
