Summary: This player is best coupled with a TV capable of supporting full 1080p resolution (use an HDMI cable!).
Pros: This player looks great sitting in the room and it has very high quality video output. Simple, straightforward Blu-Ray DVD player that can do video upscaling on non-Blu-Ray DVDs to make them look much better on a high-definition TV (full 1080p resolution if the TV supports it).
Cons: s...l...o...w..... Loading DVDs and getting the video started is a slow process. I don't expect lightning speeds, but when your waiting for some kind of feedback from the player just a little longer than you'd like, it can get annoying if you are watching something that has multiple DVDs in a ser...
Summary: I would wait before buying my next player for the prices to come down a little further and for the drive speed/software to operate faster. Load times are slooooow. Also, I thought Blu Ray was featured as being able to go straight to the movie menu yet I still have to FF through previews... annoying!
Pros: This model is the de facto 'slightly better than the cheapest' offering at Best Buy and Costco where I'm at. I like the update via USB since connecting to a router requires a chord running through the house. Very easy to set up and use.
Cons: Overheats if in a small cabinet - this was the only issue I had, but I also have it stored in an enclosed shelf. The unit itself doesn't have a cooling fan so I bough a USB laptop cooler which cured the problem (the fan is powerd by the Blu Ray USB, and turns off/on with the player). I have had t...
Summary: Even with the issues I had I am overall satisfied with the purchase
Pros: The player works as intended. Painless firmware update with a USB flash drive.
Cons: The motor is really noisy when its seeking, very difficult to hear during regular play though. Remote didn't work out of the box. After some testing I suspected it to be a poor connection on the battery terminals. Turns out I had to under volt it to ~2.8vdc for it to work. Really strange problem ...
Summary: I've had no issues with firmware updates and no discernable software bugs - two of the things that concerned me from online reviews prior to buying this.
Pros: Crystalline picture, simple menus; great upconvert on non-BluRay disks. The player is also much better at compensating for scratches on rented DVDs than the Sony I had prior to this.
Cons: Slow to boot up a disc, though I gather that is common with BluRay. Fast forward and rewind seem to struggle at times. I had one rented BluRay disc freeze when trying to access the extras, and I'm assuming this is due to the different standards for enhanced content currently competing for the Blu...
Summary: I write this to warn others so the turmoil that happened to me doesn't befall those that wish to use this product. This product plays Blu Ray movies very well. Image is great as well as audio. However, DO NOT UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE!
Summary: I've owned this unit for about a month now and feel like I'm fairly conversant with how the player works. First of all, the picture quality and sound quality are great. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. I've had some upconverting DVD players, and the difference is there and highly noticeable.
Summary: I bought the 1500 through ABT while they still had a few in stock. Great customer service, shipped immediately and arrived promptly. The unit is really good - although not flawless. The first short coming is that the unit only has HDMI and optical cable jacks for audio.
Summary: Got the Samsung BD-P1500 last night. Setup was easy to do until I decided to update the firmware using the ethernet port. The Firmware downloaded then began to install only to take 2 hours, and not do anything.
