Summary: This is the second Blu-Ray player from Samsung that has problems. It was great right up to the one year mark after I bought it. But then it had a problem playing regular DVD's. It had to problem playing Blu-Ray DVD's but it stoped playing Regular DVD's. I thinks Samsung jumped into the market to fast. Now I'm a fan of Samsung but the Blu-Rays made by them seems to have a problem.
Summary: Comments about Samsung BDP-1500: If you want a Blu-ray and only a Blu-ray, it's a good one. I tried it at home. But I'll say it 100x, the PS3 does Blu-ray PLUS games, and everyone plays games.
Pros: Backwards Compatible, DVD Upconversion, Easy Set-Up, Excellent Image Quality, Good Connections, Good Soundtrack Support, Upgradeable
Summary: I received this player about two weeks ago, and hooked it up last week. Initially my thoughts were very positive. We watched the Dark Knight Blu-Ray disc, and it was incredible. That was the good news. The bad news started with trying to play a video DVD-R I burned on my computer, the DVD-R would not play in the Samsung BD-P1500. Things got worse from there. The unit would not play regular DVD's. As of today, it won't play anything, even Blu-Ray discs.
Summary: My first Blu-Ray player...and I've chalked up this one to simply being a lemon. Two nights ago it arrived, downloaded the firmware update no problem via ethernet. Popped in "Iron Man"...would not play. Read that I need to disable BD-Live for it to play. It did. Two nights later, with BD-Live disabled, popped in "21"...would not play. Enabled BD-Live, disabled it, powered the player off, unplugged it, reset it up...still would not play.
Summary: This unit has two design problems that I'm aware of. I'm surprised that Samsung hasn't already fixed these issues. For reference, my unit has the latest 1.3 firmware as of 9/10/2008. #1: The BD-P1500 has inherent audio drop problems on the HDMI interface. I'm not sure if the optical interface has the same issue(s); however, I wouldn't be surprised if it does. The audio bitstream will drop (silent) occasionally on most blu-ray discs that I've played.
Summary: Unless I just got a broken one it doesn't do what its meant too. When you try to play Blu-Rays in 1080p there are sound skipping problems, with any disc I try it with. Change it to 1080i and they are ok most of the time but there are still problems. This machine is quirky and quite frankly I wouldn't recommend buying one.
Excerpt: "...the tray repeatedly. Therefore contacted Samsung about repair. With all Samsung products make sure you keep the receipt as they will not do any warrentry work without it..you have been warned.. Rung Samsung to get repaired it eventually took 4 weeks for them to arrange a replacemnent player as the part mine needed was on back order. Wonder if this is a major problem with them? The whole process was painful and very slow in getting the replacement, ...
