Summary: There are so many problems with this PVR that I am too tired to list them all. Fundamentally, the firmware is buggy, the tuner is weak and the user interface was thrown together by an amateur. Customer service in the UK is unable to fix problems and unwilling escalate them. It is less than two years old but I look forward to replacing it soon with some decent technology.
Summary: I read the bad reviews about this unit, but went ahead and bought it to go with my new Samsung TV. Huge mistake. Bought on 18/10/2012 had to go for repair in April 2013 (straight after a software update). Now it's gone wrong again ( again after a software update ). And guess what, Samsung are no longer interested - it's 3 months out of it's warranty, and they will only give you the name of a local repairer - so I'm on my own.
Summary: First I realize you cannot give 0 star!! but a minimum of 1 : consider mine as 0 star, a disaster... Bought that product for the same reason as many others: had a samsung TV then thought it would add value to get the same vendor for both appliances. What a mistake I did. - After 7 months of buying the E8900, come back home after a few days to realize no program was recorded. - The two tuners were broken, but luckily it was still under warranty...
Summary: ***UPDATE 11 MAY 2014*** Overall this unit is really poor. The blue-ray player is very good, but the rest of the unit (hard drive/software/user interface) is rubbish. It was previously taken in for repairs by the seller (see fault in original review), it was gone a month and came back (scratched). They fixed the problem with the tuner so at least it did not keep loosing them, but the machine still locks up/freezes.
Summary: Bought this to go with my 8000 serires tv, (which is great) However even with the bad reviews i thought i'd give it a go. Unfortunately mine did not even power up! Called samsung who would repair not replace-not happy as only 3 days old. Amazon were/are great and awaiting courier to pick it up for a refund. Now wondering what one to buy!!!!
Summary: With lots of features this box appeared quite good value when compared to other similar boxes. Also I have a Samsung TV so made sense to get Samsung Bluray player so that remote controls worked together etc. I ignored several of the bad reviews associated with this product assuming firmware teething problems that would quickly go away. This turned out to be an error of judgement.
Summary: I actually bought this as part of a cash back package and didn't see any of these reviews until after I'd had it for a couple of weeks. As someone else said, if you're coming from a humax box, then you'll be disappointed with the interface and frilly bits - I REALLY miss the programmable forward skip button :( The menu structure is confused and confusing with several ways to get to recordings, but only one way to delete them.
Summary: Samsung BD-E8900 3D Smart Blu-ray Disc Player with 1TB HDD and Built-in Wi-Fi (New for 2012) Samsung's catchphrase 'imagine the possibilities' is very apt as you certainly won't be experiencing them. After reading the awful reviews I thought the best way to get a good one was to buy a refurbed one from amazon assuming all the bugs would have been ironed out. wrong. The remote would only turn it on and off and couldn't get past the start up language screen.
Decent PVR, Good Blu Ray player, Great DVD upscaling,
19 November 2012
Summary: Overall this is a reasonable PVR. The EPG can be used to show both Saorview (Ireland) and Freeview (UK) channels on the one EPG, programs can be scheduled for viewing and a reminder will pop-up on screen telling you to switch channel. Program recording can be scheduled from the EPG or manually. Repeat recordings can also be manually scheduled (e.g. Every Day, Weekly, Mon-Fri or a manual selection of dates).
