Great Bluray Disc Player; Terrible for Netflix

Chris, Amazon
19 June 2013
  • Summary: The subject line says it all really. I bought this player for two reasons, playing discs and streaming Netflix. The unit plays discs well and I am quite satisfied -- though, perhaps unsurprisingly, it can be fussy about playing older DVDs -- but the Netflix streaming is very unreliable. Streaming videos hang/buffer incessantly, they often refuse to play at all, and you constantly get kicked out of your account and have to log back in using a very sluggish interface.

Good bluray player, but beware of cinavia

W. Burn, Amazon
7 May 2013
  • Summary: This player plays well, accesses network, streams fast, enables a few high-demand apps and interfaces with 64gb usb flash drives perfectly. The key reasons to get this player is for the acceptable video formats. As it is convenient to be able to avoid converting my DVR'd videos, recorded sporting events, backed up bluray, and video files (phone & camera).

Did not work at first... no video... read for fix!

jhughy, Amazon
11 December 2012
  • Summary: This player did not work at first and I'm giving it a low score because it caused me three hours of frustration which was unnecessary. I have this player connected via HDMI to my Pioneer AVR (receiver) and then HDMI to my Samsung 46 inch 1080p HDTV. Initial setup for this player was simple. It seemed to connect via wi-fi rather seamlessly. It immediately prompted for the firmware update/upgrade and seemed to do update without a hitch.

Meh product. Save your money for something that's better

Alan S "Alan", Amazon
25 November 2012
  • Summary: Pros : Easy to setup and configure. Lots of features. Wireless runs solid. Cons : Several of those features don't work, like the often mentioned web browser hangs issue. On my system Hulu also hangs and I can't get a wireless keyboard/mouse to function. No RCA jacks, and only one HDMI port Final opinion : software glitches, a large number of software updates, and cut corners on the ports lead me to believe that this product was rushed out the door to be on shelves for...

Would be worth more if it worked decently

Jemez Fred, Amazon
18 November 2012
  • Summary: I started to rate this player 2 stars, but then I remembered how much I paid. It's OK for the price. It plays Blu-ray DVDs that its non-updatable predecessor wouldn't. First some help - if SmartHub never seems to connect to the internet, check out the DNS setting under Network Setup. The default did not work for me. Set it to what your ISP recommends. However, it has so far been just an irritation.

Just OK

DP, Amazon
8 October 2012
  • Summary: Got this because of wifi which is mainly used for Netflix. Movies stream pretty good, no stopping in between to load up. But the movement actions are quiet jittery enough to give you a headache. The dvd I had earlier of Pioneer (no wifi) was not as jittery as this one. Maybe something to do with its progressive scan not being high quality. Also, its web browser is no good, very slow. Youtube hd quality is very slow. The Netflix HD quality and 5.1 audio is good.

Web Applications Need Some Work

CaseyG "Casey", Amazon
1 May 2012
  • Summary: Home Connection Specs: 6Mbps Internet; connected player by both Wifi and Ethernet Cable; no other devices powered on during Blu-Ray install and use. Pros: Set-up was easy for both WiFi and Ethernet Cable. Firmware update was automatic, so I would do your initial set-up by Ethernet Cable just to avoid any issues created by WiFi such as an inadequate signal. SmartHub interface is nice with several FREE apps available at Samsung for download.
