Summary: When the media streaming devices came out, I really just had to have one. I tried the logitech revue and google tv. I really liked the revue, but it didn't let me stream hulu which I didn't like. It also didn't let me play DVD's or Blu-Rays, so I decided to go with the Samsung product. I actually had to buy three in total because of issues (keep reading), but kept coming back to this player.
Summary: Beware the claim that this bluray 3d player will upconvert 2d to 3d - there is none. This can be problematic to those who would buy the wrong TV thinking their player will do what their TV doesn't. The wifi is weak, took many tries to login but never stayed connected long enough to get the apps, so the smart TV feature becomes useless unless wired in.
Summary: Unable to view any artwork when logged into Netflix. Samsung finally admits that there is a problem with the app (probably the most commonly used and important internet app!!). Awaiting a 'patch' which Samsung states is 'forthcoming' but will not provide me with any other information. Player is slow to load titles from queue. Overall internet interface is nice, however it is very SLOW to perform. For me, the 'jury' is still out...
Summary: This was easy to set up, but I was very surprised that it does not have the capability to stream Amazon videos. Since I am a Prime Amazon customer, I am thinking of returning this blu ray player since my other LG blu ray player does have an Amazon app to stream movies and TV shows.
Summary: Most con and pro issues have been discussed here by other reviewers so I will just add my "two cents". Applications, e.g. Netflix, Pandora, etc. are super slow to load compare to today's standard; almost like comparing an i486DX computer to a Pentium III computer. Like other reviewers, I did too experience freezes; at least five of them and I just hooked up the player three days ago.
Great Picture and Colors, Features Fine When They Work
14 May 2011
Summary: I been using the Samsung BD-D6500 unit for a month now and found the picture and color rendition to be great. 3D viewing through my Samsung 3D ready HDTV and optional 3D glasses works well. The wired and wireless connection work but I found myself resetting the unit's network interface on occasion in order to get the unit to function. I strongly recommend using the wired connection for speed and reliability.
Summary: if your looking for a basic blu ray player this is for you ! good picture and sound quality and able to connect to the internet wifi with out a dongle. smart hub with access to catch up tv as well.thats it !
Summary: Generally in the short time I have owned this it seems good in most respects. However I purchased this particular player because it allows me to playback H264 movies from my Windows Home Server (a DLNA server). The Samsung TV I recently bought does this beautifully, but this Blu-Ray player keeps dropping frames/stuttering on playback with the exact same files. It will have to be returned. It also has the same problem if playing back the mp4 files from a local USB disk.
