Look elsewhere

stockmarketbob, Amazon
12 April 2014
  • Summary: Only lasted two years before front panel touch buttons failed to work, had to use the remote. A couple of months later, the DVD player stops playing in the middle of a movie, and now player mysteriously turns itself on and off. Time for a new one. Too bad, it was fine when it worked, but proved not to be reliable. Judging from reviews of the newest Blu Ray players, Samsung appears to have serious quality issues with it's players, they do make great TV's though.

Terribly slow player and super buggy

Georgi A. Angelov, Amazon
1 December 2012
  • Summary: This is by far one of the worst players I've seen. Super slow and super buggy. I got this as a free gift and IMO that it is pretty bad. I am considering buying something else as opposed to keeping this... I'm terribly disappointed by Samsung for shipping something so dysfunctional. The Blu-ray works well but the software is laggy and has lots of bugs. The onscreen keyboard is HORRIBLE(really). I have never seen such horrible keyboard functionality. It's pretty pathetic.

Smart Blu-ray is not worth the money

Big Sky, Amazon
20 November 2012
  • Summary: After a year of using the blu-ray players, I thought I would follow-up with a review. If you are buying a blu-ray for the "smart" content, don't waste your money. I bought several blu-ray players as gifts as well as a Samsung Smart TV. It depends on your manufacturer which apps they will provide. I still cannot play Amazon movies through any of the devices - HBOGO is available on the TV.

Good Blu-ray Player; Poor MLB.TV App

JCoz, Amazon
9 October 2012
  • Summary: The Samsung BD-D5500 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) [2011 MODEL ] is a fine Blu-Ray and DVD player, but needs lots of improvement for the streaming apps and a networking problem. First, occasionally, the box gives you a network error - something like network not available. The only way I've been able to fix it is to unplug the unit and plug it back in. Time to fix that, Samsung! Second, when you select the Internet apps, it takes about thirty seconds to display them.

5500 most returned

david, Amazon
18 June 2012
  • Summary: I have noticed this player to be the MOST RETURNED Blue Ray Player Samsung makes. I've been to Best Buy and CompUSA. My findings have been from November of 2010 to Sep 2011. Bunch of returns on the shelf every time I go into the stores.

3D Movie Format problems & Connectivity issues

NeCoGa, Amazon
18 June 2012
  • Summary: This player came as part of a TV package so we took what was given. It has worked OK until the recent purchase of the Cars 2 3D Blu-ray. Numerous times during the movie the picture would skip back two or three scenes and start playing again. You can skip forward and get close to where it was but who wants to watch the same scene two or three times before you can get it past the spot where it skips backwards!

No Amazon Prime Streaming support - None Planned

BlindedByScience, Amazon
18 December 2011
  • Summary: Is this a decent player, yes. It does not, however, support Amazon Prime Streaming Videos (that I can find), and the arrogance of the Samsung support person I contacted was rather breathtaking. I was told that this player doesn't support Amazon Prime, and it'll never support Amazon Prime....but all I have to do is replace my TV (60" plasma less than a year old) and it will be supported. Nice. I'll be looking to replace this player, sooner than later...

Stuttering Samsung Apps

Sidney L. Andrews, Amazon
8 April 2011
  • Summary: Good: Quick Boot Plays the content it advertises Looks sleek and has the newest collection of Samsung Apps Bad: Not sure if it's because this is new but the Hulu Plus & Netflix apps stutter uncontrollably. I brought this player to replace an excellent earlier Samsung model which never had this problem. It is so bad that a video could go 10-15 minutes without audio or out of sync. Sometimes the video will play in slow motion with no audio.
