Samsung makes good tv's and terrible blu-ray players

David M., Newegg
8 May 2013
  • Summary: I love my Samsung tv, but I will never buy another samsung product besides a tv again. I think they trade on their tv reputation to make poor quality products.
  • Pros: This blu-ray player does everything I wanted it to, and had noticeably better quality than my previous samsung blu-ray player. It does netflix, pandora, hulu, and several other interesting apps. The load times were so much faster than our previous blu-ray player we bought 2 years ago.
  • Cons: This blu-ray player started "blipping" out after the first week of using it. "Blipping" = screen would flicker white and would try to reaquire signal repeatedly. After 2 weeks was unusable. I checked the tv, swapped out the hdmi cable and swapped out the blu-ray player with another blu-ray player...

Died right after the warranty expired

Anonymous, Newegg
26 February 2013
  • Summary: I did like the player until it decided to die on me. It was annoying that it died one month out of warranty.
  • Pros: Worked great until it died.
  • Cons: After 13 months of ownership it began playing only 27 minutes of a Blu Ray movie and DVDs would randomly pixelate on the screen followed by a loud squealing sound.

Anonymous, Newegg
13 January 2013
  • Pros: Simple operation
  • Cons: Netflix stopped working and reset does not bring it back. No available software update (I have the latest software). Very frustrating. It worked for a week and now is a problem.

No wi-fi connectivity even with the adaptor

PH Bible Student, Amazon
24 April 2012
  • Summary: The Amazon description incorrection states: "Wi-Fi-ready - The BD-D5300 features an Ethernet port for a wired connection to your home broadband network, but if you'd like to go wireless you can add a Samsung wireless adapter and enjoy connectivity free of cables--great for those whose Blu-ray will...

Samsung BD D5300 Blu-Ray

Vince Jesse, Amazon
31 March 2012
  • Summary: I purchased the BD D5300 as an open box item. on Amazon, because it was half the price of a new one, and because the seller stated that it was like new, and came with a full one-year warranty from Samsung. I also liked that it could Anynet sync with my Samsung HDTV. Bad decision on my part.

Bang for the buck!

Andrew T., Newegg
31 January 2012
  • Summary: Make sure you hard wire this or get an access point. I am lucky enough to have my entire house networked.
  • Pros: Sleek, good interface, and plays .avi. It has updated a few times since we have plugged it in and seems to make a difference. I've tried a blue ray, DVD, .avi via USB, and Netflix. All work flawlessly.
  • Cons: none

Horrible bluray play

R. L. Arias, Amazon
11 January 2012
  • Summary: Have you ever seen how Youtube plays when you have very low bandwidth? It becomes a slideshow without sound. Well that's exactly how Samsung plays blurays. After the last firmware update, you can see 2 minutes of Clone Wars season 5 bluray and then it gets stuck.
