Outdated firmware, not supported by Samsung, will not play recent Blu-rays

JS, Amazon
31 March 2014
  • Summary: After 4 phone calls, and over 3 hours on the phone with Samsung (the last of which simply hung up on me), and a few minutes on my favorite search engine), the verdict is that *all* of these players are now little more than doorstops. The latest firmware for this player is now over a year old; Samsung is not releasing any more updates.

BD-C6900 Refurb was the best bargan!

FastFreddie "Tattooz", Amazon
30 April 2013
  • Summary: I already had one of these models. It gave me problems with "The life of PI" 3 D. I looked for any firmware releases for this product and there was a new version released March of 2013. This really cleared up the playing problem and made the whole (boot/playing) time quicker. Definitely a good bargain today.

It could be made much better

  • Excerpt: I had a sony Blu Ray player before but when we got our new Samsung TV we got this Blu Ray to match with it. And man did I miss my sony. There are not so many apps in it but there are but when you match it with sony this one would not be what it should be. Though I love Pandora and also the HULU and a lot of other apps. Sony had some free cool Doctor Oz Apps and some Yoga app which I miss a lot. Overall this player would function well.

Kennywolf, CNET

  • Pros: Clean design. Easy to read status. Easy to update firmware.
  • Cons: Slow loading Blu-Ray discs. Scenes frozen & skipped. "Snow" in several scenes. Too hoops to access internet sites. Remote difficult to feel by touch.

"Works great with Samsung TV and NETGEAR wireless net."

KE_Digital_Services, CNET
22 June 2012
  • Pros: Player automatically connects with my Samsung TV when I turn the player on. Don't need to mess with remotes telling what devices need to be connected. Plays videos from my USB thumb drive. I like the user menu interface. "Touch" interface on player.
  • Cons: Player had "blinking/flashing" video output. Fix is in the Summery. I don't like the apps that seem to constantly need updates.

"An excellent 3D Bluray Player"

trompfy, CNET
27 September 2011
  • Pros: Great Picture and decent 3D
  • Cons: 3D price premium is high; buttons on top of the player are inconvenient; last year's Samsung Blu-ray players had reliability issues.

"Overall Decent Machine"

24 August 2011
  • Pros: Very nice looking device, 3D Capable, Wifi Built in
  • Cons: Not impressed with Internet interface, very buggy. Lack of tech support upon calling Samsung. Had issues connecting to the apps store, took 48 hours for a second level tech to get back with me. Remote isn't friendly when needing to enter alphanumeric valu

It's fairly unrefined. Decent first try but it has issues.

Kevin H., Amazon
24 July 2011
  • Summary: I've had this Blu-ray player for just over a year. It has good features but the implementation is a bit lacking. Overall, I have enjoyed using this player that came free with my Samsung UN46C8000. The 3D playback is good and the internet features are useful. But because of the annoyances below, I'm now looking for a new Blu-ray player that is more refined.
