Summary: If you try and playback an MKV file and get no sound, go into the setup and play with the PCM downstream settings when playing those files. I turned this feature off and had no other problems playing some of these formats and now get sound on all of them.
Pros: * Plays BLURAY flawlessly * Plays a wide range of video formats (MKV, MP3, MP4)' * Built-in WIFI (n) high speed network adapter.
Cons: Requires some tweaking to play various file formats from USB drives. Aging. Samsung's next wave of players are going to have much better APPS than this one. But if the APPS are not all that important, this is a great player.
Summary: This is a correction to my review previously posted. The menu system is in 1080. I'm not sure why, but when turned on, my TV shows 720x480 and the menu comes up. Then it goes black and comes back in 1080.
Summary: Not a real problem, but the menu system that the player uses isn't in 720 or 1080. It's only 480 (I think). Would be nice to have it be a bit "sharper". Another item that's not really a fault of the player is problems streaming 1080 MKVs from my computer over WiFi.
Pros: Has no problem streaming most file formats from my computer using Samsung's software, including MKVs. Blu-rays, as expected, are great. Netflix works great, and since I'm coming from my Wii for that, the HD is awesome. Playing files from a USB flash drive works great. Pandora has a nice UI and pl...
Cons: WiFi would not connect to my secured network due to various errors. Rather than run my network unsecured to do an update, I opted to do an update via USB. After being updated, it connected without a problem. Couldn't play trailers I downloaded off Apple's trailer site. I had to convert them to MKVs.
Summary: I'd buy this again. I looked for a while before I bought this. I scanned the web and went to the local stores to look at them. I'd suggest getting familiar with the features of a few of them before you settle on one to buy.
Pros: I have a 52" Samsung TV. I plugged this player into it using the HDMI cable. I connected the player to the internet using a cable. The TV recognized the player instantly and the player updated itself no problem.
Cons: I wouldn't deduct an egg for this but, even though the player is capable of streaming movies from netflix/blockbuster. From what I understand the maximum definition you can get from a streamed movie is 720. That's if you have a very fast internet connection (not the normal household cable connect...
Summary: It is an added bonus to buy this product if you own a Samsung TV because your remote from the TV will operate the DVD player.
Pros: Easy set up right out of the box and had it connected to the internet and Netflix within 45 minutes. I thank previous reviewers for their heads up about updating the firmware but I personally did not have any problems.
Cons: Set up is a little tricky if you have a password protected wireless router becuase you have to provide the DVD player with your password and the remote can take a few minutes to figure out.
Pros: * Netflix app works flawlessly for me so far. * The player interacts perfectly with the Samsung set I bought (LN40C630). They both run off the TV remote no prob. * I like the media-choosing interface
Cons: * Loads discs a bit slowly, but I am led to believe that is a general Blueray complaint not particular to this box.
Summary: I connected this to a 3-4 yr old Samsung 40 inch LCD, and without needing to program anything on the remote, I'm able to power my TV on/off and use the volume controls with the Blu-ray remote which was just an added bonus for me!
Pros: It's wireless, plays Blu-ray and DVD, does Netflix and Pandora.
Cons: Menu is a bit slow, but so far in my limited experience with Blu-ray plaers, most are no different. I figure it's like how most new technology is...the longer it's out, the better it gets. So to me, it's not an issue. I wanted a Blu-ray player with WiFi (for Netflix/Pandora) at a price I could sw...
Summary: I found this unit on sale at Best Buy. It is very compatible with my Samsung HDTV. I don't think that matters. Setup was easy and.took less than 30 min to have operational out of the box Dvd load time is faster than my previous unit. I am very happy with the purchase.
Pros: Very easy to set up. Activation was simple with the wifi. Remote is very easy to operate.
Summary: The detail information on the player lists it as having 2 usb ports. It only has one, on the front, not two. Not a con really just want to make sure people realize there is only one. I loved this player so much I bought one for my dad.
Pros: For the money (bought two of them while it was on sale), it is one of the best bluray players on the market. Loads bluray discs pretty fast. Plays almost every format of movie off my external HD (.mkv, .avi, .mp4, but doesn't play .m2ts). Wifi works great and is a breeze to setup. Netflix app wor...
Cons: Doesn't have 3D support, next model up from this one does but it's quite a bit more expensive and you need a 3D tv to go with it. I honestly can't see myself sitting on the couch with a pair of stupid glasses on... Some more complex BD menus take a while to load.
Summary: This player was very easy to set up with dumbed-down instructions. The remote is one of the best I've seen with large buttons and backlighting. Setting up internet TV was a no-brainer. Streaming movies from Netflix have worked flawlessly.
