Summary: This machine works well, I believe it's supposed to start from where you stop a film which is useful, it does this with the DVD's, but not with all Blu Ray disc's, it does most, it may depend on disc contents.
Summary: Bought this for my boyfriend's Christmas in 2011. Hasn't been used much since then, probably no more than twenty times and now it won't power up from standby. Now out of warranty but we were prepared to pay to have it fixed but Phillips aren't interested. So it's for the bin and I won't be buying from Phillips again.
Good, if expensive, player but useless for Internet TV
27 December 2012
Summary: I purchased this Philips Blu-ray Player as a Christmas gift to interface with a Philips 3D TV and also because it offered built-in wifi. Whilst I'm more than happy with the video and audio performance of the player, the Net TV function which should be available via the Internet is lamentable. Having upgraded the software in the player, there is now very little in the way of Net TV availability.
Summary: When it works, the experience watching DVDs and viewing BBC iPlayer is great. But that's not very often. The player frequently crashes when accessing menu options; usually holding down the power button for several seconds forces a re-boot, but sometimes even this doesn't work and it needs to be unplugged from the mains. The Philips NetTV server is often unreachable, despite there being no problem with Internet access through the same router from other devices.
Summary: Slow to load, the menu has gremlins (hangs and then half loads pages), doesn't recognize USB until device is pulled out and put back in again (every time), won't play certain formats now and doesn't recognise the official firmware to update it (you have to download to USB as it won't do it from Wi-Fi for some reason). I have probably been unlucky and had a duff one as I can't see that they would've released such a buggy unit. Returned and I shall be getting the Which?
Summary: I couldn't have been more impressed. This Blu-ray Player was highly recommended by Which? and subsequent searches of the internet provided additional recommendations. The only issue I had at this time was the cost which was more than I had anticipated. However on searching through Amazon I was surprised to find that there was a player available at a cost much lower than I was able to find anywhere else and lower then Which? themselves had been able to find.
