Summary: Excellent value in a top-of-the-line disc player. The picture quality is superb, and I have had no problems with the unit after being placed into service over a year ago. Simple to connect and operate out of the box and very user-friendly. Highly recommend.
Summary: I've had this blu-ray player for over a week now, hooked up to a 5.1 Klipsch speaker system and an Epson projector. The player works fine. I bought this from Amazon, which outsourced it to Target. This review is just to say that while the player works fine, the player does not look exactly as it does in the picture. Instead, it has this bluish tinge as an outline around its main face and the back and sides are gray - not sleek black as the picture would suggest.
Summary: Great price, great product, promptly delivered. Did need a fireware update. Just followed simple instructions provided by Phillips by downloading update from internet via computer to CD; and then uploading the update from the CD onto the player.
Summary: The problem with this Philips BD player is that Philips hasn't released a firmware update in almost a year. Without updated firmware you never know what BD will actually work. I'm currently a Netflix subscriber and I had to change back to just DVD because 1 in every 3 or 4 BD will not play. If buying a BD player I would check the companies websites and see who releases the most current firmware. I wish I would have done that.
Summary: I bought this on Black Friday for a good bargain. My regular DVD player had finally died, and for about the same price as I could get a nicer DVD player, I got this Blu Ray player. I think it is a great deal for the price with one caveat. Disc-wise, I really like it. There are some complaints here in the comments that it is slow to load, but I found it to be pretty fast. (Faster than my old DVD player by far, so I don't understand what people are griping about.
Summary: First I'll start with a positive note on the industrial design of the Philips player. It is a nice clean design with a large easy-to-read display on the front. Construction quality is nothing special but it compares to the other players in the price range. The remote is equally unimpressive but no more-or-less functional from competitors products. Here's where the Philips fails, however.
Summary: Performs functions as advertised. Have not downloaded new firmware as of this writing. DVD & Bluray pictures are very good on my Home Theater. Technology changes and expands rapidly. Computers and other electronics technology you purchase- as soon as it hits the market- is perhaps - already 1 to 2 years old. Value for your dollars with this unit- several formats can be used. Glad we purchased this unit and would buy again.
