Summary: This refurbished Blu-ray player has worked perfectly for me. It's not flashy, doesn't have a gooey interface, and doesn't look like much, but it's perfectly functioning, and it was cheap, so I can't ask for any more.
Summary: We have had this blu-ray player for just over a year. As a previous review states, it skips on regular DVDs. Also, blu-rays load horribly slow. Even with firmware updates, the skipping problem never went away. Also, most recently the tray to load the discs has stopped functioning correctly and gives a "blocked" error message. It is past the warranty so, guess this player is going to the trash.
Summary: Purchased the Philips BDP5005 slightly over 1 year ago. About a week after the warranty expired, the player ceased functioning. It has the latest firmware upgrades, it rests in a clean, well ventilated, dry location. It is apparently designed to fail. Have not been able to identify any parts that are broken, or any bad connections anywhere inside the device. It appears to function correctly until about 45 minutes to an hour into a movie.
Summary: I have had this player for 3 years... The entire time it has been insanely slow loading, ejecting, powering on/off. I updated to the latest firmware twice now with no luck. The player looks nice, so if you want a nice looking player, get it--but if you care about performance and responsiveness, do not get this one! It is so bad, Philips has lost my business forever...this pretty player and remote goes in the trash tomorrow. My Sony PS3 will be my player again...
Summary: just bought this blu-ray player right before the holidays and just love it.It goes great with all my other philips products and accepts firmware updates so you are always like new, however i got mine at walmart for $128.00 so sorry amazon,i still buy blu-rays from you so dont cry.
