Summary: After a month of use... It freezes and only option is to unplug the unit so se can start over. I now realized that there's at least another review with the same issue. Never expected such a poor quality from Philips.... Recommend not to buy.
Customer Service took 2 months and 3 long phone calls...

Summary: How do you rate a Blu-ray player that plays movies fine, but has a totally unfixable glitch -- leading to a prolonged, frustrating customer service experience? Does it still get 3 or 4 stars, just for playing Blu-ray discs? Or does it get 1 star because part of the experience is completely unacceptable? Apparently, the reason that Netflix is awful on this machine is bad firmware.
Summary: Starting up, loading a dvd, and etc. Oh My Gosh! Its like the remote and buttons don't work, it has a mind of its own. I can't stand it. Once everything finally loads, then you've got something to work with, but try navigating through the menu...yeah. Just a pain. I'd rather use my cheaper dvd player, and not even bother with this one.
Summary: Just got it. Immediately went to set it up, connected to my wifi flawlessly. Update over wifi failed halfway through, now it doesn't have wifi built in anymore, and requires a dongle. Wait..what? Also can't get it to update firmware over ethernet or USB. I'm going to spend 1 more hour fiddling with it, and if i can't get it updated and wifi working, its a return for me, as well as no more phillips products. Ever. Edit: Sent in for a replacement.
Summary: Here it is a year or so since I bought my last Philips dvd player, a dvp3560; the dvd equivalent of the bdp3406 blu ray player. I have upgraded to the bdp3406 (aside from the obvious blu ray ability) as it will play, and upscale, any dvd format ever made while upscaling to a full 1080p. Good job of upscaling, too (a 420 avi looks awesome!). I can't afford an Oppo, so Philips gets my money, again.
Summary: this BD player does the job, you can watch blue rays and the DVDs look better with this, I was also able to watch some PAL DVDs that I had only been able to see in a computer, I'm very happy because of this. I gave this 3 stars because when it arrived the buttons at the front were not working, I have to do everything with the remote.
Summary: I was really excited to get this player as it was well reviewed at the time I purchased it, but it has since proven to be a bad investment. The remote is unresponsive. It has to be held pretty much directly level with the player, and at juuuuuust the right angle to work. The problem is that the right angle seems to change from second to second. I can get it to work in one position, hold it there...and it will stop working. It's incredibly annoying.
Summary: I used to like Philips products. We have one of their large screen TVs -- WOW -- good item. This BluRay player on the other hand! The operating system is slow as molasses and the remote control is a PIA to use. They can have it. Navigating online content is slow and difficult. We finally got a Sony streaming media box because this unit and the Panasonic BluRay we had were both rubbish for online content.
