This Panasonic Blu-ray recorder adds features that the older DMR-BW850 didn't offer -- and it's cheaper

Good Gear Guide.au

  • Summary: The Panasonic DMR-BW880 has almost every feature you could hope for in a media player. The 500GB hard drive can store plenty of compressed video recordings (which can also be copied to Blu-ray), its network support allows Internet features and media sharing, and, best of all, it's cheaper than the model it replaces.
  • Pros: DLNA server capability, cheaper than DMR-BW850
  • Cons: Still expensive, could use more Internet features

Panasonic DMR-BW880 review

18 December 2010
  • Summary: A quick straw poll – hands up if you read the manual. Anyone? Bueller…? But with Panasonic’s DMR-BW880, it isn’t so much desirable as essential that you take the time to digest the instructional blurb – all 124 pages of it. That’s because, as hugely impressive as it is, we’ve seldom encountered a product as complex as this. Even precisely defining it takes some thought.

  • Pros: It’s a Freeview HD PVR and a Blu-ray recorder in one
  • Cons: No Wi-Fi, costs as much as a new HDTV
