Panasonic DMP-BDT330 3D Network Blu-ray Disc Player Review
18 July 2013
Conclusion: The DMP-BDT330 isn't perfect, but it is still a pretty impressive Blu-ray Disc player. Starting with its slim, compact design, and overall video, audio performance, and then moving into its internet streaming and network content access, this unit is worth consideration for just about any home theater system, especially if you have a 3D or 4K UltraHD TV or video projector.
Excerpt: There appears to be a trend developing amongst the consumer electronics companies, with many of the manufacturers carrying over their previous year's flagship Blu-ray players into this one. Sony are still counting last year's S790 as their flagship player in 2013 and Panasonic have followed suit, with the BDT500 remaining at the top of the tree and not being replaced.
Summary: The DMP-BDT330 is the top Blu-ray player in Panasonic’s 2013 range. It has one objective: to take down the Sony perching on the highest branch of our Top 10 list of the best Blu-ray players . These two firms are always battling for Blu-ray supremacy, but while Panasonic slaved away on a new machine for this year, Sony has confidently (or arrogantly) carried over its BDP-S790 from last year. This is an important fight for Panasonic.
Pros: Excellent picture and sound, Nice design, Plenty of connections, 4K upscaling
Cons: Could do with more smart content, Menu system could be simpler
Excerpt: Panasonic has a strong track record when it comes to Blu-ray players and here is its freshly honed weapon, the Panasonic DMP-BDT330. It might have lost to the Sony BDP-S790 at our 2012 Awards, but it was a very close fight. And while Sony is content to keep using last year’s machine, Panasonic has brought out this 2013 Blu-ray player.
Conclusion: We're not convinced that there are better options if you want to introduce smart stuff to your living room, but this Panasonic Blu-ray player is nevertheless a great all-digital option. It's the easiest to use of any Blu-ray deck we've tested, and though it lacks some apps in among a rather old-fashioned GUI, it's also the fastest working. We've got no complaints about Blu-ray playback, either in 2D or 3D, while DVDs and online video are skilfully upscaled.
