mediocre blu-ray player

Anonymous, Newegg
2 March 2013
  • Summary: PANASONIC DMP-BDT220P BLU-RAY PLAYER (US) LOW POWER CONSUMPTION Impressive low 7 watts playing discs, about 5 watts idle. Less than 0.1 watt off. But wastes 2.5 watts 24/7 if QuickStart mode is enabled.
  • Pros: * plays bluray and dvd discs * low power consumption * USB NTFS and FAT32 file access
  • Cons: * forced firmware updates * remote required * poor media player * poor documentation

Buyer Beware! The Amazon Instant Video app may be missing from this player!

jwcosta, Amazon
4 February 2013
  • Summary: Buyer beware! We purchased the DMP-BDT220 player from Costco. The model number was designated as DMP-BDT220CP. On certain blu-ray players with this model number, the Amazon Instant Video app is missing and there is no way to download it!

Good little player except for Netflix

Donald V., Newegg
13 January 2013
  • Pros: Does a nice job, easy set up. It has a quick response to remote control commands, an issue with our last DVD player.
  • Cons: For some reason, Netflix says it cannot connect when it first comes on. Have to go back then reselect Netflix. The device usually comes around but it is annoying.

  • Pros: Design looks nice Blu-ray loading is fairly fast
  • Cons: Netflix loading time is long for some reason Youtube does not support fast forward and reverse

Meh. Get ready to push buttons and to wait.

Justin, Amazon
24 July 2012
  • Summary: I bought this after doing extensive reviews and trusting CNET's recommendation. I was looking primarily for a streaming box that could also play blu-rays. This only qualifies technically. Most reviews cover the features pretty well, so I'll just add things I haven't seen mentioned often. 1.

Had Issues With Lockups

SW, Amazon
1 July 2012
  • Summary: This is a decent, if somewhat over-priced blu-ray player. We used it with a 46” LED, non-4K but 3D TV that is about two years old, and it produced very good picture quality with blu-rays, less so with standard DVDs.

Good Basic Player - but too basic and horrible documentation.

Mike in San Diego, Amazon
1 July 2012
  • Summary: This Blu-Ray player does a lot of things well but it misses some basics. It's OK for playing disks and some online streaming sites, but only if you are willing to sacrifice some other features and have it in a good spot to use WiFi. I'll start with the Cons: 1. IT HAS WORTHLESS DOCUMENTATION!!!

This player screams planned obsolescence

A Movie Fan, Amazon
1 July 2012
  • Summary: It was good while it lasted. I've had this player for several years now and it worked great for a long time. Unfortunately Panasonic didn't update the firmware as much as one might expect and it's had problems here and there.

BBC iPlayer problems

mjcmoppel, Amazon
13 October 2012
  • Summary: Bought this unit from Amazon in May and up to the beginning of October I was very pleased. All of a sudden the BBC iPlayer app dispays a security issue dialogue box when you play a programme, that you cannot get rid of!
