Works well, decent player

Joseph P., Newegg
19 January 2011
  • Summary: It's a nice player but given the fact that I was really looking forward to being able to use my external 1TB drive to keep my movies on and, therefore, make them readily accessible when ready to view, causes me to be just lukewarm to this product.
  • Pros: WiFi setup was a snap. Love the internet connectivity and, via the WiFi connection, it was simple and painless to update the firmware. Picture quality is excellent.
  • Cons: I haven't yet found an external drive that will work with it. This was one of the main reasons I purchased this player, to play digital movies stored on an external drive via the USB connection. First up was a 1TB external Hitachi drive (with an external power supply). Despite being formatted as ...

Beautiful Picture AWFUL On-Screen Display

SteveV, Amazon
15 December 2010
  • Summary: The image quality of the BD-85K is beyond reproach. It replaces a 2 year old LG BD300 that has started having problems reading all but the most pristene disc. PQ is noticably better on the Panny but it fall VERY short of the mark when it comes to the UI and On-screen display which appears to be...

GREAT PICTURE - POOR UI

Lynn Schreiner, Amazon
6 December 2010
  • Summary: This DVD works very well with great picture and sound - but the User Interface leaves much to be desired. Like most UI software out of Japan, theDMP-BD85 falls way short resulting in user frustration.

OK product for the money

Mr. Practical, Amazon
15 October 2010
  • Summary: I searched for months reading reviews and finally purchased the panasonic blu-ray player. After using it for 6 weeks, there has been many problems with Netflix video streaming and a dvd just got stuck in the player. Pulled and replugged the power cord to resolve.

Great player but UI is simply awful

obenation, Amazon
24 August 2010
  • Summary: The positives have been extolled by others already: great picture and sound quality, wifi works great, netflix works great, youtube is good, etc. BUT, and this is a big user experience BUT, the user interface and remote control have been designed by engineers who have no concept of usability.

Nice Blu Ray, but....

K. Hsieh, Amazon
6 August 2010
  • Summary: Got this unit for my fiancee early December. It's your standard Blu Ray player with wireless dongle. Easy to setup. I don't like the Netflix interface, as it only sees your queue, and you can't search or browse. It doesn't have Hulu. I'm fine with it.

Netflix limitation

George H, Amazon
4 August 2010
  • Summary: I thought my player was nearly new. Actually it turned out to be less than two years old when I realized that Panasonic was not going to have a firmware upgrade to stream Netflix at 1080p. This same player streams VUDU at HDX (1080p) so what's problem Netflix or Panasonic?

BETTER OFF WITH THE LG!

Michael C. Miller, Amazon
4 August 2010
  • Summary: Save your time and trouble of returning this product. The Panasonic is a very nice Blu ray player, however, after buyibg this and trying it, I realized I had made a big mistake. The LG BD-590 HAS EVERY THING THAT THE PANASONIC HAS AND ABOUT TEN MORE FEATURES.

Disappointed

Lantana Al, Amazon
4 August 2010
  • Summary: I've been using this player for awhile now. Aside from the bugginess and slowness, it works OK. Truthfully, I expected more from Panasonic and a player rated this highly.
