Summary: The Audio is much better than my old Helos DVD conected to my Yamaha V2400 AVR, however I am disapointed with Componet Cable play back. This unit Will Not upconvert 480P to 720P. By reading Panasonics description of product - I thought it would. Also unable to remove bars at top of screen, even when DVD is set to 16:9 Full. Panasonic Customer Service was minimally helpful.
Summary: This unit worked great for about 12 months but now it makes a really horrible noise when loading a Blue Ray disc and after about 2 minutes says the disc is "unreadable". It will play regular DVDs still though. Bizarre...
Summary: Video quality is fine for both BD and DVDs, although VRS Anchor Bay based players are capable of better quality images. Its sound is also good for a BD player, actually BD80 is far better than BD45/60/65/75, good enough to use BD80 as a CD spinner. I compared it side by side with a DV-983H Oppo player and I found both marginally equal. For less than $200 it's still a nice choice taking into account its attributes, mainly for those who are audio oriented customers.
Summary: Works well, but does not do NetFlix. You can rent from Amazon Video. Takes several min after you put the disk in till you can see your movie. Haven't timed it, seems like several minutes, probably only 1 min. Scratched Disks: I have yet to find a disk that other players will play and this one will not.
BD80 Unit fails to recognize disks after 18 months

Summary: Panasonic DMP-BD85K WiFi Enabled Blu-Ray Disc Player (Black) Panasonic DMP-BD80 High Clarity Audio Blu-ray Disc Player, Black Was entirely happy with this unit until this morning when it no longer recognizes any kind of disk. Have had it for 18 months, so it is out of warranty! Was not used much! One expects better from such a higher end unit. Tried a cleaning disk to no avail. Would worry about buying another Panasonic Unit.
Summary: I bought this player with the promise of being able to play streaming Netflix. It does not play Netflix nor will there be a firmware upgrade to allow Netflix to play. I bought this player Xmas of '09. I later purchased a Panasonic BD-655P-K at Costco in June of 2010, which you can find here for $100.00, that's a deal. There is no reason to spend more money for a Blu-ray. The Panasonic DMP-BD80 does a nice job of playing DVD's I must say.
Summary: I bought this Blu Ray player primarily for the option of streaming movies from the internet, which it will do if you buy all of your movies from Amazon. If you want to use Netflix - find another option because this model IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NETFLIX! Very disappointing. The Blu Ray player itself works well with no glitches. It plays back even my oldest DVD's with no problems.
Summary: This player fails to download and play Amazon Video rentals but the worst part of it is Panasonic support. Virtually non existent. When I contacted Amazon they told me that their service is having problems with Panasonic bluray players and that they are working with Panasonic to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, that was 3 weeks ago. I recently got update to the firmware but it did not fix this problem. Until it does I cannot recommend this player.
