Summary: It was a very easy and straightforward set-up that went much more quickly than I had imagined that it would...in no time I was enjoying some blue-ray DVD's on my home theater with great sound (7.1 speaker set-up was also quite easy).
Pros: Easy Set-Up, Excellent Image Quality, Good Connections, Good Soundtrack Support
Summary: I bought this unit to replace a Panasonic upconverting DVD recorder so there are a lot of similarities between the two including the remote and the menu structure. The setup was easy and connecting was a snap (how can you go wrong with an HDMI connection). I also connected the analog output to my AV receiver. The Blu-ray picture quality is excellent and the upconverting is even better than my old unit.
Pros: DVD Upconversion, Easy Set-Up, Excellent Image Quality, Good Connections
Summary: I purchased the BD80 primarily for the audio specs. and Dolby decoders built in,It does them all There is plenty of jacks to route video and audio as you please I am using both digital coax and analog multi channel to feed audio to an older rec/amp with very pleasing results. Video is excellent feeding my Sammy 52A750 and I have not seen any dropouts yet on any disc I have played so far.
Pros: Consistent Performance, Great sound, High Quality Picture
Summary: This is a really great Blu Ray player. It makes more sense buying this one, than the base BD60 model, which I already own. The BD60 can't output digital audio, when the machine is connected to HDMI but the BD80 has no such problem. The machine recognizes just how you are connected, and the easy setup takes you through the entire process automatically. Great machine, with extremely fast start-up, and it outputs sound from all sections simultaneously.
Pros: Consistent Performance, Durable, Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, High Quality Picture
