Panasonic DMP-BD 80

Televisions.com
19 March 2012
  • Conclusion: Multimedia Like in the player's DMP-BD 60 predecessor, the "Viera Cast" function is one of the BD 80's top highlights. Via this internet service, the Panasonic provides access to YouTube videos, Picasa photo albums, news tickers, and sports results - there are also plans to extend the service...
  • Pros: Superb 24p movie picture., Excellent DVD playback., Great multimedia functions., Accesses YouTube videos online., Low power-consumption., Decodes all HD audio formats.
  • Cons: Disc drive is too loud., DVD "Film" mode must be activated manually each time.

Panasonic DMP-BD80 Blu-ray Disc Player Review

BigPictureBigSound
27 March 2009
  • Conclusion: Panasonic has been blazing a trail in standalone Blu-ray players for the last couple of years but they were a bit late to the game for online content access. So far, the actual content available in VIERA Cast is fairly limited (YouTube and Picasa, with Amazon on-demand content coming soon).
  • Pros: Excellent audio and video performance for DVD and BD playback, Flexible media playback options: CD, DVD, Blu-ray, SD card and USB port, VIERA Cast shows promise (YouTube is a good start)
  • Cons: No on-demand movie streaming as of yet (Amazon coming soon), VIERA Cast not fully integrated in its operation and currently limited in content choices, Operation times are just average and not improved over prior generation players

A high-end Blu-ray player with DivX playback and 7.1 analog audio output

Good Gear Guide.au
29 October 2010
  • Summary: The Panasonic DMP-BD80 is a top brass Blu-ray player with a respectable brace of bells and whistles. If you specifically require 7.1ch audio and DivX playback, it's pretty hard to beat. Otherwise, plump for its cheaper stable mate, the DMP-BD60.
  • Pros: Good multimedia playback, access to YouTube, superb 1080p video quality and upscaling
  • Cons: Start-up times could be a little faster, offers little to distinguish itself from the DMP-BD60
