Summary: I waited until all format BS subsided and for the new generation blu-rays to be released. The difference between blu-ray and regular dvds is not as big as the difference between HD and cable, but on this player there is a noticable improvement in the picture quality. One great surprise was the sound improvement. The sound quality will really blow you away!(I recommend the Matrix scene where Morpheus is rescued.) The BD-50 is easy to set-up.
Summary: I've had this player for about 2 weeks, now. It's not for the faint-hearted to set up! Now that I have confirmed that all functions work, including BD-LIVE, I am thoroughly happy with it. Great picture, great sound, and BD-LIVE. But, because of all the difficulty I had setting it up, I would have liked to have given it a 4.5 instead of a 5. Here are the problems I faced. Perhaps it will save someone else some grief.
Summary: I spent a lot of time reserching what type of Blu-ray player to purchase. I read a lot of forums and the one thing that kept being said was to purchase one which had; Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. This unit had everything I was told I should look for. I'm playing my regular DVDs on it currently and the picture is amazing compared to the old DVD player. Can't wait to go out and purchase some Blu-Ray DVD.
Summary: I am a Blu Ray newbie, and I am so glad I made the decision to go for it. This new Panasonic player is highly rated on CNET and other reviews, and of course, I read the reviews on Amazon. I have a Panasonic 46 inch Plasma Viera 850 series, which is AWESOME, so went with the Panasonic Blu Ray player. I am glad I did. The player came from 6ave, and it arrived early, and in excellent condition, and hooked up very easily.
Summary: I have used the blu ray player extensively since receiving the player-about a month. The player starts up relatively fast. The main controls are convenient. The video is outstanding. I was able to display pictures on my large screen lcd television with great results using the sd card reader included in the player. My delivery was done in a timely manner and I was continuously informed of the progress of my order.
Summary: got this baby about 2 weeks ago and its awesome!!!internal decoder for dolbytrue.hd and master audio awesome.picture quality is on par with both my toshis.the incredible xa-2 and a-35(hd dvd).i agree with one of the reviewers for upconverting standerd dvds i use the toshis.the best upconverters.back to the panny, for anyone looking for a blu ray player i highly recommend this one its just amazing.
Summary: With the money we invested with our audio video system we were hard pressed to replace our fantastic processor to obtain the new codecs. This baby solved the problem. Run five cables to your 5.1 analog input and presto chango you entered sonic paradise. We could not believe the clarity, the openness, the impact of the bass, the detail of the sound, surrounds came alive etc etc We got our high def butt kicked. Picture quality is fantastic very detailed.
Summary: Since one of the reviewers had a bad experience with this player's quality, I was hesitant to purchase one... even though it was at the top of my list in every other way. I decided to take a chance and I'm glad that I did. So far it works flawlessly. It has all the features I'm looking for at a price point worth the player. Easy to use and well designed unit and remote.
Summary: Needed a Bluray player that would process all the new audio formats internally and send them via HDMI and this Panny is doing everything beautifully. No complaints, had it now for about a month and everything is working great, no hdmi handshake issues, outstanding picture, great sound. Its fairly fast loading up and the standard definition dvds don't look bad either. This is a keeper!!
