Summary: If you spend $1200 on an audio/video input device OF COURSE you will get a significant improvement in audio and video output. And be inclined to give the Oppo BDP-105 Darbee five stars. That's not the issue. The issue is: Is this Oppo WORTH $1200? Oh Heavens, yes! Best money I ever spent on any a/v device. I was persuaded by the "most helpful" Amazon review. (I read every one. Twelve hundred bucks is twelve hundred bucks!
Summary: I was looking for a single box that would do everything: - extract all of the wonderful sounds from my hundreds of CDs - play DVDs through my sound system - play music files across my home network - play Pandora and other online streaming files through my new sound system - let me watch Netflix movies, also through my sound system and so on. I wanted great sound quality, great build, perfect picture quality and a good user interface. I wasn't disappointed.
Summary: This universal player replaces a Pioneer Elite DV-45A. I had been using an outboard DAC with the Pioneer to try and improve its sound, but it only made a marginal improvement. As such, I did not believe I would hear much of a difference when I received the Oppo BDP-105. But wow...what a difference! A lot of that cold, digital hardness is gone from CDs, and high-res sources sound sublime--smooth, non-fatiguing.
Summary: Recently purchased Oppo BDP105D after almost 6 months of research. Set up consists of Marantz SR6008, Kef LS50 - Front R/L speakers, R200C central speaker, Kef E301 - Front height R/L, Surround R/L speakers and B&W PV1D sub. I was researching audio DACs for a long time and just as I thought of buying Cambridge DAC Magic Plus, I started reading about OPPO products (Not happy with current Blue ray player).
Summary: Ok, so my review headline might be a little hyperbolic and a lot weird, but it gets my point across quickly. Not the point that I'm weird. I'll leave that for another discussion. The point that the OPPO produces the kind of sound that I've never heard outside of a concert hall. I'm an audio guy rather than a video guy, so why buy a Blu-ray player?
Summary: I had been planning on buying an Oppo player since I read reviews of the first model. Several models later I finally did it. I am very glad I did. The sound and picture quality is amazing and truly compliments my high-end system. Also the extra features like Netflix, etc. network connectivity, USB DAC and being able to plug a hard drive full of videos/music files into the back of the player etc.
