The five stars are because I got it at half price, way cheaper than the OPPO.

Summary: I purchased the UD 5007 mainly as a CD Player as well as a backup for my Blueray player. Accordingly I purchased it Refurbished for half the price, still not cheap. Good: The chassis looks new and the buttons work. Sound and image quality excellent. Excellent customer service.
Behold, another unadulterated affordable audiophile Marantz product, flawless if expecting performance minus bells and whistles!

Summary: Behold, the power of Marantz returns! I have a panoply of SACDs, DVD-Audios, Blu Rays, HDCDs, DVDs, and yes...regular CDs. This plays all those except HDCD, but if you bitstream it to a HDCD capable receiver (like my Marantz SR8002 its paired with) you have no problem.
Summary: Let me start by saying I will never buy a Marantz product again! The first ud5007 I had hardly ever worked kicked me out of netflix all the time also had severe handshake problems the replacement is even worse it does not like to read half of the blurays I own.
Here I am Back again after years of bad experiences with 'Universal Players'

Summary: Here I am Back again after years of bad experiences with 'Universal Players', But as my birthday was coming up and my wife actually bought this for me 'Happy Birthday Sweetie', I was curious with what Marantz would do in the face of the 'Oppo' assault on the market.
Summary: Marantz manufacturing made a mistake on this one, it played but wasn't as advertised. One phone call to Marantz and it was replaced asap. In fact I was having a hard time keeping up with their requests to get it mailed in. Their commitment to correcting the situation was greater than my complaint.
Summary: It's tricky to review a Bluray player at the mid-price point. With prices for BD ranging from $89 to $1200 and up, it's fair to ask what the differences really are. It's hard to argue that the UD5007 produces a picture significantly better than an inexpensive player costing much less..
Summary: You can by an inexoensive blu ray player from and endvap at your local department store these days ... but, if you want one that has phenominal sound reproduction, fast queuing during start up, FF, and chapter skips, then spend the money on this unit.
Pros: Great sound! Very fast! Nice graphical menu for installed app access
Nice player - compatible with my otherwise obsolete stereo.

Summary: My old DVD player croaked, leaving me without a way to play disks of any kind. The only thing I own with HDMI inputs is my TV which does an awful job decoding audio from HDMI. All sound in my system is handled by an old analog Onkyo 8522 stereo receiver.
Pros: High quality 2ch analog outputs keeps your old obsolete stereo in play.
