Summary: I BOUGHT THE BD690 AS A UPGRADE, HAVING A RC897T I THOUGHT LG WAS THE WAY TO GO, THE PRICE WAS HIGH,THE REMOTE DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK,STREAMING SOMETIMES IMPOSSIBLE, CANT RECORD TO THE 250 GIG HARDDRIVE. A 6TH GRADER WOULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB PROGRAMING IT. LG SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS JUST TO SAVE THEIR NAME.
Summary: LG may make good TVs. I wouldn't know. I never will know after owning this piece of junk for the last two and a half years. Nothing but trouble. It turns itself off randomly. The user interface is horrible. The hard drive is basically unusable unless I want to download stuff off a handful of sites that LG recommends. It takes forever for a DVD to load. The update process (which I've done a couple times TRYING to fix some of these bugs) is painful and scary.
Summary: I bought this for my SamSung 55 inch TV. It works great. It has an ethernet cable, wireless and an USB port. I could put blu-ray file on a uSB disk and it plays well. There is no complaint on it. It is relable. I wish I could control it using a computer mouse as the remote key pad is not efficient.
Summary: This unit will play redbox blu ray disks but won't play some blu ray disks we've purchased elsewhere. We can't figure out why. Otherwise funtions well but we should have complete confidence it will play all disks given the relatively high price point.
Summary: We purchased this BDP in April 2012 and did not open the box until April 2013. Towards end of April/May we hooked the BDP with our TV and realized that it refused to start. It kept giving us error and never started. We bought this model at a high price and had to trash it. Wasted money and expired warranty before we even used it!
Summary: Provides plenty of HDD space, and dual-band WiFi for network connectivity. Best feature of all is that the SmartPhone remote app lets you navigate the HDD on the smart-phone's screen, and in addition to that, it can be set to automatically pause whatever is playing when you receive a phone call.
Summary: I bought this as an upgrade to my BD390. The BD390 was decent, but showing age in what media formats it supported, etc. Also, the BD690 has an internal drive, and supports Amazon VoD. Set-up is pretty straightforward. Everything is labelled well on the back. All of the configuration is in the "setup" menu (gear icon) and is a clean, easy to use interface. The back and home buttons are swapped from where I want them, but that's a preference issue.
Summary: I bought the LG BD690 player 14 months ago specifically for the hard drive capability. The first month of ownership I had to wait for updates almost every time I wanted to use the DVD player. (approximately 10-12 updates in total) DVD playback is good except for an occasional failure to read a disk from Red box rentals. The disks looked clean but I cleaned them again and would repeatedly load them until they would eventually play.
