Summary: The unit plays great and produces very good pictures. It was way too difficult to set up for wireless internet use, Had to call for technical support. They were very good at going through the steps to set the unit up. It seemed that they had been through the process before and were expecting the problem when I mentioned the reason for the call. It took over an hour on the phone to finally get going.
Excerpt: We decided to finally join the world of blu-ray players and ordered this LG-BD550 Blu-Ray player to go with our new flat screen tv. We don't have a lot of blu-ray movies yet, but have watched a few and I haven't seen a huge difference between blu-ray movies and just regular dvd's. I have felt like the upconverting feature has helped our regular dvd's look better on our high definition Television.
Summary: Great price, looks good as well. Worked great for two weeks now i have to restart it often as it won't read the dvd. I have a new set of DVD'S so that can't be the problem. Kind of disappointed and frustrated.
Summary: I bought this as a second blu-ray player to my PS3. It works, but the interface is really poor. It moves slowly and has an odd background. I feel ashamed that I bought it when I turn it on and see the background. I don't know if it was the cheapest blu-ray player available but I wouldn't brag to anyone that I own it. I get the same ashamed feeling after I eat Taco Bell.
Summary: First, the good - unit works great. Can watch Netflix and other on-demand movies. Makes my DVDs look good even on an older JVC TV. I have no complaints there. However, some things you should know: 1) Remote can only be programmed to work with a limited (to me) number of TVs - mine is not one of them. SO, you have to keep a couple of remotes handy to run the TV and run the unit.
Summary: I bought this Blu-Ray player specifically because it is WiFi capable. I have two chief complaints: (1) to use WiFi, you have to insert a dongle into the USB port on the front of the player. This is ugly and causes you to push your player back in the cabinet; the USB port should be on the back of the player &/or you shouldn't have to use a dongle. (2) The WiFi connection is very inconsistent.
Summary: When i first got the player i was very excited to use it and when i had it hooked up ten minutes later the HDMI port on the back of the player did not work. i tried 3 different cables with the same result and i even tried swiching the resolution to no results. but the wifi worked and so did all the other output connections but still without out the HDMI i was rather dissapointed.
