Summary: I bought this because although I had a dvd player, I needed another player so opted to go ahead and foray into blu-ray. It looked like a good entry level player but what I got was nothing but trouble. It plays a disc once in a while and the ones that do play take multiple times of ejecting and unplugging and restarting just to get it to load.
Summary: We purchased this unit with our new LG high def TV having many JVC devices in my home. At first I thought it was a great unit until I found problems playing some of the new released Blu-Rays. Back to the Future, Avatar and several others do not play even when the software is updated. I put it on our Sony system and they work fine. It seems the software isn't kept current enough for the newer disks!
Summary: It's very good that this Blu-Ray player can play DVDs from all regions. That's the only thing we can trust it for. When it comes to Blu-Ray, it's 50/50: it can only play half the discs I get from Netflix. The other half will simply make it hang while loading. It even detects it's a Blu-Ray and then stays in the initial screen forever... And playing from USB is also almost useless for me: it supports only a very limited set of file types.
Summary: Bought the JVC all region XVBP11 DVD player from Amazon. Remote never worked. JVC sent me replacement remote. Still no luck. Now JVC tells me they cannot pay for labour to fix, only parts. Labour will cost min. $100 which half cost of unit. Certified Bronx dealer assumes rightfully this is most likely problem within the unit itself. Amazon passing the buck saying I have to contact the actual distributor who has no contact info. Amazon claims no responsibility on this.
Summary: I needed to play music DVDs mostly from Europe and so had to purchase a DVD that could play PAL format. Though the BluRays is only for zone A, it is plenty for me and I don't really know if it is the remote or just operator error that has some difficulties jumping from one submenu to another with the BD. That is not an issue with the standard DVDs. Simple, thin, but not flimsly. Has USB port in the front, with play rew fwd buttons.
Summary: I don't mind bells and whistles, but generally I like my products to just one thing and do it well. I have a simple cell phone that I use to make calls. I have a bone-stock truck that I use to get around. So all the features over and above the ability to play DVDs and Blu-ray discs are not that important to me. In this case, though, I needed a little something extra. I was looking for a BD player that was also a region-free DVD player, and I thought I'd found it.
Summary: Lasted 7 months, now screen flashes black every few seconds over HDMI output. Probably not worth the hassle of dealing with JVC customer service. Player was always annoying since it doesn't save your place in discs you've already started. Another piece of electronics going to the dump.
Summary: Made the mistake, bought cause it was cheap. Broke immediately, wouldn't play blu rays only regular dvd's. Sent it to JVC, they wanted 75 bucks to fix it under warranty and to charge me to send it back if I didn't get it fixed. Oh, forgot, and 75 bench fee plus 12 shipping even if I didn't fix it. What a racket, lesson learned, never buy JVC, and from now on I'll heed that lesson.
Summary: It does what it says: plays BluRays, and plays all region DVDs (at least, I've tried it on Zones 1,2 and 4 DVDs and it played them fine). Disappointed that the USB port on the front can only be used for looking at photos or music - will not play movies of any kind through it. I thought I'd make that clear for anyone like me who thought you could.
Summary: I bought this JVC XVBP11 as a blu-ray player/cd audio player for my audio/video setup in my mancave. (basement) I have only watched maybe 10 movies and a probably 25 audio cd's on it. It has worked fine until today (about 7 months since I purchased it) Now, it has a subtle crackling (distortion) noise in the audio. Picture is fine. I know its the player because I have a 10 year old Panasonic DVD/CD audio player in my system also and it works fine.
