I'm in the nero 9 sucks crowd, then again, I had issues with nero 8 too. Nero 7 rocked... twice bitten, yeah, I must be an idiot. Now that we got that out of the way... for the basics, it's OK. I had no install issues so that's a plus but that could also be due to my past skeptism that made me waited until some initial reviews (probaly paid for) were out and only after a couple of patches to the initial release were out, before plunking down some greenbacks.

My issue, video editing. I decided to go cheap (hence the Nero aquisition) instead of buying Adobe Premier Pro xx (whatever the latest is... I stopped using it after 1.5). My mistake. Nero9 craps out on some HD video, others, it can handle... and don't even get me started on the CODECS. I was told (by Nero) I needed to upgrade (buy some ad-on crap) so I did... the issue was never resolved so I got burned on additional expenses.

Now, my real issue is resolving the issue I just described (Video support) previously and it's with the operations side of this fine German software powerhouse. Customer Support in the US is no longer available (at least 2 months ago) via phone (Meaning i can't rip someone a new rectum). You deal with them now via e-mail, diagnostic log etc... (ie let's outsource this (op's) to India etc...) and I swear, it's been over 3 months now and I've not heard back... I know this got "lost" (wink, wink) in the queue, the current situation makes my Nero8 issues seem so trivial.

I live to read the news that this company has filed for bankruptcy because that's the path I see mgmt. going down. To bad too... Nero 7 really was a superior product. Oh, the glory days.... Rome did not fall in a day.

ive got 2GB memory,my hdd is 25o GB, its a aspire m5100 with over 70% memory and when i had NERO 8, no probs whatso ever. installed NERO 9 over a month ago and every time i use nerovision, my computer shuts down. now after speaking, emailing and bollocking nero, who by the way, have given me nothing but excuses, ive decided to take legal action against them. this is obviously a con and a way for those tossers to make money out of a product i used to admire.
NERO, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON????

The company definitely uses misleading statements:
The user guide for ShowTime - http://ftp6.nero.com/user_guides/nero9/showtime/NeroShowTime_Eng.pdf states a number of times "You can find more information on Blu-Ray support at www.nero.com/link.php?topic_id=416" And then when you look there they say "Edit and author Blu-ray Disc content."

Why would you even mention Blu Ray support with links and all in the documentation/guide of a MEDIA PLAYER (Nero ShowTime) if you can't support PLAYback ??!!?? The only reason? To deceive your customer. Nero used to have Blu-Ray playback in Nero 8, so many people upgrading would have expected that Nero 9 would also and be fooled by all the statements.

Happy user of Nero 6 Ultimate and Nero 7. Wanted ability to burn convert to mp3 and update with new Nero + Backup.

Problem: Infotool starts than hangs, blocking all other programs.

Tested:
Convert AVI to DVD worked (2nd time, 1st time blank disk...?)
RIP CDA to mp3 128kb/44KHz seems fine (complete CD and titles/artists).

Nero phone support EXTREMELY inconsistent!!!!

Installation secret:
1. Install ALL files from CD (includes help, templates)
2. Install "full" download upgrade but DO NOT USE default trial s/n, use the CD s/n.
3. Reboot when complete (CD 20 minutes, upgrade 210 mb DL, 45 min install on 2.7 GHz XP pro sp3)
4. To fix infotool hang, Nero support told me to use cleantool then reinstall. (did not fix)
Then Nero support told me to disable security (! yeah, sure...) I disabled NIC, then did re-install (3rd time) w/o AVG or COMODO.
NO DIFFERENCE...InforTool STILL HANGS

I'm wondering if it is because my first DVD drive is SATA, and not PATA...?

BTW: I don't think there is anything woring with Kristofer or his PC - there are obiviously some UNDEFINED critical components/settings/configurations which are required for success. Nero is apparently as unaware of these as anyone else. NOT good!

Does anyone have an answer for the problem with installing templates? I've wasted 4 hours on this. Also I've noticed my laptop is running at crawl speed recently...come to think of it that started just after installing Nero 9. Kristofer you may or may not be a liar but you certainly are a FOOL!!!!!

The progrma is good but - it is bloated - the install system is crap - and the clean tool is useless

Wow-Nero 9 installation is wasting my life away. After several cleans with Neros clean tool, some registry cleans, and an unbelievable long amount of time to install what should be a simple process. Greed has infulatrated and destroyed what used to be a fairly decent piece of software. When I receive my rebate (if I receive it) I will purchase something other than Nero. Im old school and used 5 and 6. I always ended up uninstalling and going back to 6. I cant quite figure out the logic of a "Nero Update" which has me install trial software? Does Nero software installation require a Masters Degree? There tech support- opps did I say they have tech support? Silly me. Neros online FAQ's are about as helpful a placibo. I should have believed all of the negative things I have read on the web about this software if you want to call it that. My retail version included Nero Backit up an burn but the serial on the envelope doesnt work. As far as painware I give it a 10. Any how thanks for letting me vent after no responces from tech support and numerous and countless hours just trying to get this installed.

What a shame! The installation crashes. they suggest download the General Cleen Tool. But this "tool" does not clean the registry, and the installation cannot start. By the way, why should I download a special tool? Cannot the installer perform the cleaning needed? Never ever acquire Nero 9!!

What a crap!
There is an opinion that General Clean Tool might help. Bullshit! First of all, why should I download a special tool for cleaning? Cannot the installation program perform all the cleanings needed? And the tool is as bad as the package itself. It does not clean the registry! The installation still crashes after running the tool.

I just bought the upgrade from nero for nero9 version 9.4.26.0 and it seemed fine, i am running a dell xps410, 4gb ddr2, pentium core 2 duo 2.4ghz and a geforce 9500 graphics card. Installation was a little bit long, about 20-25 minutes but hey, look at what's packed into it. I was able to buy the upgrade of nero 9 from windows 7 for $58.98 and that included the blu-ray authoring plug in's the dts plug in, nero back it up and burn, and 5 gigs of web storage. Didn't seem to be too steep for me considering if i didn't upgrade it would have been $130. i had nero 7 running with vista, and i upgraded to windows 7 in which nero 7 was not compatible. I could burn movies with no preview screen, and most of them were skipping, locking up, pixelated etc. So because of windows 7 i decided to try it. So far so good, everything worked well for me no problems at all so far.

I will say i do not like having to go through nero vision manually, it doesn't seem to be built into nero startsmart like nero 7 ultimate was in the favorites.

Also don't jump on the writer, these are just his reviews, i bet every single person has a different computer running differently on this forum. so some may have it easier than others.

I installed Nero 9 from the store package without too much difficulty. Since installing the latest version: 9.4.26.0, it crashes every time I open Nero StartSmart. I guess I will have to install the newer version and return to the older version of Nero 9

I'm feeling a little insecure right now. I searched for "Nero Problems", after having difficulties with the menu templates. And found this page!

Firstly, I agree with kristopher about the install. No problems there, my new Windows 7 32bit Core 2, 2.13GHz 4GbRAM machine dealt with the install in around 20 minutes. Media files did change to open with Nero, but that was not a huge problem to resolve. I've burned 5 sets of DVD's (in-car vid cams), successfully drawn the Lightscribe labels and burned those as well.

I will support the view that Nero has crammed too much into this - probably half the features I don't envisage using.

As I said at the beginning, (so far) the only problem I have had is the non-functionality of the 3D menu templates.

I’m feeling a little insecure right now. I searched for “Nero Problems”, after having difficulties with the menu templates.

I’ve burned 5 sets of DVD’s (in-car vid cams), successfully drawn the Lightscribe labels and burned those as well.

I will support the view that Nero has crammed too much into this – probably half the features I don’t envisage using.

I have been using Nero for some years now and if there is anyone from Nero reading these responses you should very acutely aware of a few things;
1/ Your competitors are improving there programs to match or out perform yours,
2/ Your competitors programs are becoming easier to install, work with and get help with,
3/ Its human nature to remember bad things, the more difficult the program, the longer people will remember these problem companies,
4/ Once you loose a customer, not only will you very rearly get that customer back, that customer will convey to others how bad your product is (weather true or false).
All these people above and more, you should be making sure they are happy after all, these are the people who will infuence others about Nero.........
