Epson WorkForce 600 All-in-One Printer Review
Manufacturer: Epson
Product Name: Epson WorkForce 600 All-in-One Printer

In my time as a reviewer I’ve gotten many products for review and I’ve found that quite bit of them don’t live up to their marketing hype, it’s not that they’re bad products it’s more the expectations are very high with some. The product I’ve got for review today though lives up to and exceeds the hype, it’s an all around great product with virtually no flaws to be found.
On the review block today is the Epson WorkForce 600 All-in-One Printer, and as soon as you open the box you’ll be impressed by this printer. My wife, who normally couldn’t care about the stuff I get for review, was thoroughly impressed by this printer, so that’s saying something right there. Anyway, the WorkForce 600 just looks great, even without powering it on you can just see that this thing means business, but yet look stylish enough to fit in your home. After all, the WorkForce 600 is meant for small and home businesses, so it’s made to be a work horse and that it is. The 600 includes some great features like WiFi capabilities, laser quality printing, fast printing speeds, built-in memory card reader, and even an LCD to preview your pictures and operate the 600 easily.
It’s just an excellent choice if you’re in the market for an all-in-one printer, personally I like these types as then you don’t have to have separate devices for all the things you need to do…
The box is huge and heavy, when the FedEx guy delivered it I heard a big thump on my porch, and I was like ‘what was that?’. Of course there are several pictures along with specs and features listed on the box. The printer itself is packaged very well with styrofoam padding, wrapped in a plastic bag and more plastic covering the surface of the printer to protect it even more during shipping.
There’s a bit of stuff included with the WorkForce 600 including ethernet cable, power cable, driver/software disc, user manuals, sample paper, phone cable and of course the printer cartridges. No USB cable though, but that’s common nowadays for printers not to include one.. I’ve always wondered why they don’t include USB cables, I mean they’re cheap…
The housing of the WorkForce 600 is plastic as is expected, most of it shiny, and overall the look is classy but yet subtle, it should fit in with any decor.
The main interface of the WorkForce 600 in on the front panel, here you’ll find all of your function buttons and even a color LCD panel to make navigation, operation and even editing your photos easy. Off the the far left of the panel is the card reader and USB port as well, I found that the card reader doubles as a storage device for the printer as well. You can scan documents, save them to a memory card or USB drive and then just transfer them to your computer, no need to use any software to scan documents anymore, a very nice feature indeed.
The top is the automatic document feeder that can hold up to 30 pages for faxing or scanning multiple documents. Under that is a flat bed scanner that can be used for scanning or as a standard copier, under the scanner is where the ink cartridges go.
The paper goes into the back of the WorkForce 600, it can be adjusted to fit several sizes of paper and even envelopes.
The finished prints come out the front and land on the collapsible paper tray.
In the back of the untit we find the main power connection, ethernet jack, USB connection and telephone jack.

The WorkForce 600 is very easy to setup, since I’ve got wireless I opted for the WiFi installation. You need to hook the ethernet cable up to your router, then follow the instructions to install everything, then you just unplug the ethernet cable and your wireless! Setup in total took about 30 minutes, which is about average for most printers. I also connected the printer to my wifes computer as well, when you put in the disk it gives you an option to start the install for a second computer, that setup is even faster and it’s easy as well.
Using the printer is very easy with the LCD screen and navigation buttons, there is a shortcut button on well located the left of the screen to easily access the most commonly used features quickly.
The menu choices are Fax, Copy, Photo, Scan, Backup Data, Print Ruled Papers, Setup and Problem Solver.
and yes you read that correctly there is a Data Backup function in the WorkForce 600, you can backup whatever is on your memory cards to a USB drive. Also you may have noticed the Print Ruled Papers choice, I think that’s rather cool, you can print lined or even graph paper in various sizes..
There’s also a very cool greeting card feature, you pick a picture, print a template, fill out the template and then re-scan it, the WorkForce 600 will understand your choices and print out your cards. Here’s the template, then filled out, then the actual cards, clicking on these picture will take you to hi-res views at 1587×2187 resolution.
Actual printing is just excellent, they were not exaggerating when they say laser quality, the print quality is truly laser quality. It just so happened that my wife had a project for school were she had to print up 15 booklets for the class for a presentation, in total it was about 90 pages. The quality was excellent all around, and they printed fast even with pictures on them.
Regular pictures printed very nice as well using photo paper, they look just like something you would get at a photo lab, my wife was very impressed by them, and it takes a bit to impress her… she still uses a film camera and send her pictures out to be developed because she doesn’t like how the pictures look when they are printed at home with our other ‘photo printers’, but with the Epson she was impressed by the quality of the pictures. One thing she said immediately was ‘no dots!’ which of course she means pixels, but with our HP Photosmart and Brother Photo printers if you look closely you can see the dots, with the Epson you can’t…
Faxing is fast, and it’s nice that you can put up to 30 pages in there, when you’re done you can even print out a report of the things that were faxed if need be.
This thing can do pretty much anything you want it to, it truly is an all-in-on printer.
The only possible gripe I could have is that there is no handset to talk through, my previous all-in-on had the handset and I guess I’m just very accustomed to using it as a phone, but of course you can hook up a phone to the WorkForce 600 and use it that way.
I could just go on and on about this printer, but trust me, it’s an excellent choice if this is the type of product that you need.
Honestly, try as I might I can’t really find any faults with this printer… for the price it’s perfect! I’ve done everything possible with this printer and it has done it all perfectly and flawlessly

Conclusion:
As I mentioned I tried to find something wrong with the Epson WorkForce 600, but I couldn’t, it does everything exactly the way it’s supposed to and it does it with quality and efficiency.
If you’re in the market for an All-in-one printer then be sure to check out the WorkForce 600, you’ll be very happy you did.
Coming in at around $200 it’s well worth it, I can easily see this thing costing more really, it performs and has the features of products much more expensive than itself.

-Wireless network capable
-Easy to use
-Easy to setup
-Numerous great features

I have an Epson Stylus Photo R260 printer which has a feature that lets you print on CD’s or DVD’s. I haven’t been able to find out if the Work Force 600 has this feature. Since I haven’t actually seen one in person, I was wondering what you found out about this feature as you were doing the testing for your review. Otherwise, this printer looks pretty nice.

How is the noise level? Printing? Scanning? What about fax if someone faxes me? I have no idea if there is any sound and what type–if screeching high pitch or silent. Ringing? I’m deaf and I live in a high rise apartment in the City. I do my work during the night because it is quieter and distract-free but for my neighbors… am I driving them crazy with the noise I’m unaware of? They have no way of complaining to me because I do not have a door bell flasher nor a telephone. Could you enlighten me what you experienced with this machine?
Thank you!

I will need to use this for both a Mac and a PC. Does the Ethernet work with a Mac? Good review. Thanks!
14/10 - 2008 at 22:36
Yes the Ethernet works with a Mac. I just got this printer today, was very easy to set up on a network using a PC and a Mac. So far I’m very impressed with this printer!

I don’t like inkjets, I don’t like all in one printers, but due to circumstances (ahum, ca-ching), I had to buy an inkjet all in one. Luckily at BestBuy, the lady from Epson was there flogging these printers, so she talked me into one. This is a fantastic printer. It scans beautifully, it prints documents double-sided in BOOKLET format (you have to flip the paper over manually), it prints photos like a photo shop. My only regret was the lady was trying to get me to spend eight bucks extra on 24 pound paper and I opted for the cheapest paper available. It’s thin and the docs look crudy because of the paper. Get the 24 pound paper and you will be amazed with this printer. The print quality and speed of printing are great.

Any experience with paper jams? This has been the deal-breaker, and printer-breaker, on almost every printer I’ve bought so far–
Complications from this inevitable snafu include the difficulty in extracting jammed paper ;the resulting damage to the internal alignment; the tiny bits of paper that tear off and that are unreachable from outside and that then make the printer inoperable.
A techie told me that it’s caused by the rollers getting worn and hardened with time so that they don’t grip the paper evenly. He said that this happens to rollers while just sitting in the months and years in warehouses, long before you purchase the printer.
So you want a printer that came out of the factory recently (or whose paper roller parts did :-)), and one that has an easy opening up of the innards to extract the paper when it does jam eventually.
20/10 - 2008 at 11:22
I’ve never had a problem yet with jamming and I’ve put a couple reams of paper though it since I got it.. so far so good!

Hi Anil,
Here’s what we did with the Mac in our house.
Head over to the Epson site, go to Drivers and Support, then type in ‘Workforce 600′ in the search box on the right. Drill down to the 600’s drivers section for Macs. You want the .dmg Driver file. Pull that down and run it on your Mac. After that, you should be able to go to Add a Printer and it should appear as long as your 600 has been set up on the network.
Good luck.

Too bad you didn’t the fax capabilities. What I have found it that if you have an answering machine hooked up to another wall jack on the same line as the printer/fax, once the answering machine picks up (as it is supposed to do because it answers in fewer rings than does the fax) then the fax fails to receive the incoming fax. The only way you can get the two (answering machine and fax) to work properly is to plug the answering machine directly into the printer/fax device EXT jack/port. The manual leads one to believe that it will work either way (answering machine plugged into another wall jack on the same line or into the EXT jack on the fax/printer device). Not true, in order for the answering machine and the fax to work properly, the answering machine MUST be plugged into the fax/printer EXT jack.
Sounds like a step backward, as my 8-year old HP all-in-one worked fine with the answering machine plugged into a wall jack on the same line in another room. Seems silly to have to move my answering machine from the kitchen (where it is most convenient) into my home office where the new Epson Workforce 600 is located just to get the answering machine to work with the Epson.

On the box, the Epson Workforce 600 says in fine print that some features, such as the double-sided printing, will not work with Macs. I want to know if anyone has had this problem or is there a solution to get a Mac to print double-sided on the printer.

Great review! Lots of pertinent detail. I purchased this from Best Buy today and on my way out of the store stumbled upon the Canon MX850 display. I couldn’t wait to get home to see how that Canon compared to my Epson. After reading numerous reviews of both units I cannot wait to get the Epson out of the box. Thank you!

I am happy with all features of my Workforce 600 that I bought at Best Buy for $149.00 except for receiving faxes. This printer does not recognize fax tones. It must be operated manually. To get it to answer automatically the answering machine has to be moved from another room and connected directly to the printer external port. I was able to receive a fax without connecting the answering machine to the Ext. port by turning the answering machine mode to “don’t answer” and leaving the answering machine in the kitchen. The good news is that I have three PCs (one in the garage) and a laptop and all have access to my printer.

I just bought this printer today from Best Buy to replace my HP printer/copier/scanner because I hated the picture quality of the photos (visible pixels and always printed flat even though I used glossy photo paper.) Installation was easy and I immediately began printing photos. Much to my disappointment, it printed the photos just like my HP (visible pixels and flat…not glossy). I see no difference…maybe I’m doing something wrong?

I’m considering this all-in-one for my home office. Anyone have experience with it’s PC Fax feature/software included? Specifically wondering what type of file the incoming fax could be saved as. PDF? I’d love to be able to receive the fax, save it and email it on as something very usable like a PDF file.

Great Printer - I can not believe it was only $150!! I do have a question that I am hoping someone can assist with… Since the printer is located near my router, I set it up w/ the ethernet connection to the router. Printing thru the network is a bit slow - which is probably my network instead of the printer. Does anyone know if it would be even slower if I set it up w/ the wirless connection? My router is a D-Link xTreme N - so it should be pretty fast.
Thanks.
3/01 - 2009 at 16:45
Technically wireless is slower than wired, so you should be printing fast… I’ve got mine hooked up via wireless and it’s nice and fast… you may have some other networking issues going on if it’s slow…
4/01 - 2009 at 0:48
Windows Vista loads the printer driver only…you need the disc provided for the scanner and anything else.
You have to remember to delete your previous printer driver from Vista before installing because it will default to the old printer only. Also, with the ton of support programs from arcsoft you may find deleting them may take hours… if you tested them and find they’re not worth keeping, use Windows restore and just reinstall the Workforce drivers only. Restore is time sensitve…the longer you wait the less chance of cleaning up Quick.

I just installed the Workforce 600. It seems great. The only downside I see is that I can’t receive faxes while my answering machine is on. The AM is in another room. I don’t want to bring it into my office.
I wonder if I set the Workforce up wirless if the AM problem would be solved and I could receive faxes without connectng the answering machine to the Workforce. I have a phone connected to the workforce.

Thanks for all of the comments, and just an FYI, the Epson Artisan 800 just got here today for my review.. so look for that review in a couple weeks…
10/01 - 2009 at 8:23
If you hook up wireless, do you still have to plug in a phone line into the printer to fax or is this done wireless also?
Thanks
12/01 - 2009 at 12:37
1st day Impression? Awesome! Wi-Fi is without question a huge benefit for homes that have dual computers and printing needs without adding a second printer or having to wait to connect a USB cord when someone else finishes their project.
Printing speed=Fast
Print quality=Excellent
Wi-Fi=Excellent
Scan=Excellent
Fax=Haven’t used yet, but would love to hear comments on how the operation is performed, and set-up proceedures.

I recently went out and purchased the Workforce 600. I found the manual useless.
My problem is receiving faxes for some reason it does not work with my answering machine.
I hooked up a phone to the Workforce as instructed in the manual.
The only way we received a fax was to turn the answering machine off.
I have called Epson customer service number and I kept getting the reps from Manilla and found them not very helpful. The language barrier was a strain.
Can anyone tell me how they solved a similar problem, I am so close to returning the system,
On the plus side the wireless capapbilities are fantastic, I was able to print and scan from other rooms in the house.
Thanks

I like almost everything about this printer except that it appears to reject non-Epson (or refilled Epson) ink cartridges. Maybe I’ve just had a bad set of ink cartridges but this is a real drag since the main expense of a printer is the ink (I’ll spend equivalent of original price in no time at all — new Epson ink going for about $15 a pop so just 2 1/2 refills and it’s the same $150 the printer costs. On the other hand, if I can use the remanufactured cartidges (at about $6 each), it’s a 250% improvement. Since this thing seems to go through the regular sized cartidges at a pretty good clip, this makes a huge difference in operating expense.
19/01 - 2009 at 14:12
Iwas thinking about getting one of these printers but from reading all the post about them here and the talk about the print cartidges not lasting that long is making me think twice.
Take a HP cartidge all the color ink is in one cartidge and the Epson is in separate cartidges, wouldn’t they have more ink in them than the HP ones?
About how many pages can be printed in black before you have to re place the cartidge.
19/01 - 2009 at 14:14
I forgot to ask in my first post, can you Fax wireless to the printer?
19/01 - 2009 at 15:18
Does the scanner have a descreen fuunction?
24/01 - 2009 at 23:06
I heard that if just one color ink cartridge runs out, the black ink cartridge will not work at all, until the colored one is replaced. Is this true?
24/01 - 2009 at 23:58
hk=Descreen? not sure about that…
-
Peacedove= as for color cartridges and black not working, that’s not true at all, I’ve had colors runs out and still be able to print fine, just the warning pops up telling me to change cartridges..
-
Joey=as for the questions regarding faxes and answering machines, you need to have it set to listen for the fax tones
-
Mark= I’ve used it several times for faxing with no problems, single pages and multiple via the document feeder, no problems at all
28/01 - 2009 at 0:19
I hope this is a simple question: I cannot get a printed a single #10 envelope!
What am I doing wrong, I use Word >envelopes-labels, then place a single envelope vertically
in the feeder, tried far left, middle and far right, none print at all, just get an error
message ‘load paper’. This happens with or without sheet paper in the feeder. HELP
Thank you.
28/01 - 2009 at 15:28
I have had nothing but problems. Can’t print 2 sheets without a paper jam occuring and the funny thing is… there’s no paper jammed into the feeder. bahhh..
28/01 - 2009 at 16:05
I have my answering machine connected directly to the external port on the Epson and still can’t receive a fax. Someone said to have it set to listen for fax tones - how do you so that? I haven’t found that option on the set-up screen
28/01 - 2009 at 20:14
I hate my epson workforce 600 I can’t get it to print without the paper jam going into jam mode.
I hate Epson. I am going to fax a few things and then take this junk outside and beat the crap out of it. It’s brand new, and I would rather smash this junk into a million tiny pieces than to go through the bother of returning it. This is the 2nd time I got so upset with Epson. I hate you epson. I hate you.
28/01 - 2009 at 20:28
I don’t know what to say about the paper jams… never had one yet, on my second set of cartridges now so I’ve printed quite a bit… I was printing 20-30 pages at a time and no one paper jam..

I asked for help on 1/28/09. I researched/answered my own inquiry. FOR THOSE NEEDING TO PRINT A SINGLE #10 ENVELOPE ON THE WORKFORCE 600, USING WINDOWS XP (SP3) AND MS WORD:
Control Panel: Printers-Faxes>Right mouse click on workforce 600 icon>choice printing preferences>tab (shortcuts)>turn off print preview. Now tab (main)>select #10, #10, landscape. Now tab(advanced) and select #10,#10. Now tab (paper layout)>turn on by output
paper size>OK.
MS Word: File>page setup>tab (margins)>landscape. Tab (paper)>#10>OK. Now to Tools>letters
and mailings>envelops and labels>tab (envelope)>options>turn on delivery point barcode. Now tab (printing options)>select face up, (under feed method) select far right image, turn clockwise off>OK. Finally, place the #10 envelope into the empty feeder vertically far right, flap to the back
and to the left. YEPPIE, PRINT THE DAMN THING!

Has any run a stack of 5 X 7 photos through the document feeder? Is it good for this, batch converting photos to scanned images?
3/02 - 2009 at 22:28
This is the first scanner I’ve owned. I scanned four pages with adf and saved them to a jpeg file and later emailed them. I wanted to be able to email the 4 pages as one document but was only able to email them as separate pages within the email. Is there a better way to do this? Also, I pressed “okay” to scan to PC from the epson and it didn’t go any further. If you have basic answers to this, please let me know. Thanks.
13/02 - 2009 at 14:30
Question, Can the WorkForce 600, scan a document in to the printer’s memory, with out me going to the PC ? I want to go to the PC to pull in the scanned document or documents at a later point in time.
15/02 - 2009 at 8:45
What is the max paper weight that this printer takes? I’m looking for a laser printer that can handle heavy cardstock. I would like to use up to 120lb paper weight.
16/02 - 2009 at 21:22
Does anyone know if the Workforce 600 works well with Vista Home Premium? I have an HP 7550 printer and it does not play well with Vista. What I need, besides printing, is the ability to scan and to fax from my computer. Does the Workforce 600 do this? Does it generate a cover page (not one you create in Word) and if the fax messes up, does it retain the sent faxes in memory to view or re-send? The HP 7550 used to do all of this, but has stopped. I’m very frustrated and don’t want to invest $ in a printer that doesn’t do what I want it to do.
17/02 - 2009 at 13:59
Can someone give me a detailed “setup” as to how to add this printer to a network which includes ethernet connected computers and wireless laptops, all running Windows XP (Home and Pro)? I.E., Do I plug it into my Linksys router? And then what? I want to be able to access the Work Force 600 from four computers, two desktops, and two laptops.
18/02 - 2009 at 4:41
Dont buy this if you want to scan with it. The scan software dosn’t allow you to crop what you scanned before you save it and I place a yellow background behind the photos i scan and it scans it a dirty tan color?? Can anyone help. Printer is fast and great but I need a scanner! My old 10 year old Lexmark x73 had all these features. Would not reccomend to anyone scanning.

I’ve got a paper jam now on an Epson Workforce 600 that’s about two months old, if that.
Just a smidgen of paper near the roller — I can see it but can’t get my hand/fingers inside to grab it.
Any suggestions? (Besides taking it outside and bashing it to bits, as suggested above?)
18/02 - 2009 at 19:11
My 600 works fine except for receiving faxes with the answering machine(turned on) in the family room and the printer in my home office. If I turn the answering machine off I can receive faxes no problem. I have tried everything I can think of to solve the problem. Epson help has been no help. The only problem I have found is the clock is slow by 11 mins. but I can’t find a way to manually reset it. I assume the clock time is established via the electrical system like some other electronic devices. Does anyone have any suggestions??????

peacedove, maybe kristopher can do something i can’t, but my cyan ink has run out and i have nearly a full tank of black ink, and it won’t let me print. i just went to epson tech support to see how to bypass it and after going through all the steps it said, “You cannot print or copy when an ink cartridge is expended even if the other cartridges are not expended.” Basically, had i known this, i would not have purchased it.
25/02 - 2009 at 15:05
Aaah! Thank you, thank you! In response to the issue regarding color ink running out and not printing, it is TRUE! I am sitting in Staples parking lot this very minute waiting for them to open so I can buy one stupid little color cartridge so 4 days worth of faxes MGHT print out. Grr! I specifically ASKED at Best Buy when I bought this: will it print with just the black ink cartridge or MUST we have all full color cartridges installed? The saleswoman said we NEVER had to buy color if we didn’t want to. Baloney! My other issue is the double-sided printing — how? how? how?! No instructions in the fairly useless manual. As a matter of fact, every operation is 5 steps too many & nothing is done easily. Altogether, I curse the day I bought this WorkFarce 600 and didn’t just stick with HP. :-/

28/02 - 2009 at 15:46
Maxxer- What are you talking about? Wireless work perfectly, no drop outs or anything, I’ve been using it since I got it for review with zero problems. as for Vista64, that’s what I use, there are no problems with the drivers at all.
and I don’t understand about mixing wired and wireless? Why would you want to? If you’ve got it hooked to your router then everything on the network can access it, so you must be doing something wrong.
I’m thinking you’ve got other issues with your computers… maybe do a virus scan or something, update your drivers etc…

Hi there! I’m an Epson tech for real. I work as a Level 2 tech-support for Epson. I’m happy to see many people are having fun w/ the New Epson W/F-600.
@SUE, yes this printer supports MAC and WINDOWS. =)
@Steve, you’ll be surprised what this printer can do if you buy an Epson paper. =)
@Postpen, the “Epson tech” that you talked to told you the truth. It happens to ALL PRINTERS. As for this printer, we are not receiving calls from people experiencing paper jam. We do get calls from people not knowing how to install printer Wireless. L.O.L
@Anil, make sure your network is working and follow what KJH said.
@Bill in Escondido , FAX printers of today and yesterday still relay on Analog signals. If you are using a Digital telephone service you need to have a filter. The filter will (from the word itself) filter out the analog signal for your FAX messages and send it to the telephone (if that is a voice call) or the FAX printer (if that is a fax message) from the digital signal used by your computer for your internet… It’s a long story really. If you still have problems making your Epson All-in-one FAX printer and Telephone/Fax service to work. Please call our Support Hotline.
@Andrew, Please check your MAC OS X version and the application’s detail on how to print Double-Sided. This printer doesn’t have an Automatic Duplex unit that will turn the paper the other side to print on it. You need to manually turn the paper over. But if you do so w/o setting the application to print double-sided you may accidentally print on the other side the wrong way.
@Korie , My advice… try printing a different photo or image. Check the print quality and check the paper. It would be to your best interest to buy an Epson paper for your Epson printer. Same issue? Call us and will give you a hand!
@Barbara Teichert, Ma’am that is what you call WINDOWS FAXING. Please check with Microsoft or your Computer vendor (example: DELL, HP, Toshida) how to setup your computer’s Operating System for Windows Faxing.
@Jamie Smith, printer’s slowness or fastness depends on the network. A Wired Network is more stable but not mobile like a WiFi connection. The downside of a WiFi connection is just like a cellphone sometimes it have a good signal or reception and sometimes it doesn’t. Call your router mfg. to check what is best for your router. (ei. Wired or Wireless)
@edward richard, while on the window that is asking you to enter your Network Name (SSID) or Network Password just press the MENU button and you’ll see the green box highlighting ABC move to abc then move to 123…
And to those other questions that I wasn’t able to answer… Please do not hesitate to call Epson’s Technical Support Number !!!
I hope the review website’s owner doesn’t remove this post. I’m just trying to help. =)
1/03 - 2009 at 11:52
Hi guys. It me again. =)
To MAXXER…
Sir, if you’re having issues or problems please do not hesitate to call Epson first. It is not good to say to other people to say STAY AWAY FROM THIS… as other’s would think that the printer is of no good.
I am not saying this because I am an EPSON Level 2 technician but I am a computer technician. I work with lots of computer stuff. DELL Computers, Toshida computers… DELL AIOs… Canon SLRs… etc.
Let people check and see for themselves if the devices they are purchasing are/is worth their while.
And one more thing. Epson have drivers for MAC and WINDOWS only. Why? LINUX is an open-source O/S Linux people calling our tech-support # only asks what the printer can do. Why? Because they can create their OWN DRIVERS. That is the best thing about LINUX. It’s an open-source. Unlike MAC and Windows.
OS Support:
Windows 95 ==== for Legacy Printers & Scanner ONLY
Windows 98 SE ==== for Legacy Printers & Scanners ONLY
windows 2000 ==== for the not so old Printers & Scanners =)
Windows XP both 32 & 64-bit OS (All Versions)
Windows VISTA both 32 & 64-bit (All Versions)
MAC OS Classic ==== for Legacy Printers & Scanner ONLY
MAC OS X (from 10.3.x to 10.5.x)
Good luck w/ the Legacy units! hahaha

I have had this printer for four months now and I am very impressed with what it can do. My home office productivity has increased 10 fold with this printer. I use it to print invoces, reports ect.; the scan to pdf is great, I can scan in contracts and other documents to my PC; faxing is great, not to mention the copying. I have used quite a few printers over the years, namely HP, but this printer is by far the best I have used. Also it goes easy on the cartridges, not like some printers wher you seam you are changing ink more than you are paper.
8/03 - 2009 at 20:17
Has anyone tried scanning? I’m looking for a scanner with ADF, and preferably duplex scanner, to scan many handwritten notes from lectures and not sure if this is a scanner that is reliable.
12/03 - 2009 at 2:02
Love my W/F-600, but have a problem after several months of wireless use. I lost the wireless connection and can’t get it re-established. Have tried to re-install from the beginning, but the install procedure can’t find the printer. If I use a USB connection, it all works, but thats a drag.
12/03 - 2009 at 2:09
I recently just lost my wireless connections as well, but I turned it off and back on again and then it worked, I actually unplugged it as well
13/03 - 2009 at 20:51
How in the world do you print a double-sided document with the Epson 600 Work Force printer. There are no specific instructions ANYWHERE that I can find, internet or the useless manual. I tried to print out a simple 32 page document from a pdf file (Windows Vista) double-sided so I only would use 16 pieces of paper and the pages were all jumbled and completely out of order and no HELP to be found anywhere.
Otherwise we like the printer so far.
16/03 - 2009 at 21:01
This is to Keith Roberts above: man, I’m LMAO (in case you don’t know it means Laughing My Ass Off) with your review. I actually had tears in my eyes, so hard I laughed. Thank you for making my day! I needed ethat laugh! Nothing like reading someone’s outrage and laugh really hard! Your punchline: I hate you Epson! I hate you! was just too funny.
25/03 - 2009 at 23:52
Definitely a problem printing black only when one of the cartridges runs out. I am Dead in the water, and cannot print our business critical documents in black only until I get money to go get new cartridges. Seems like the firmware could be modified to fix this problem. Anyone know?
Otherwise a good printer. But this problem will alert me to not but a like printer in the future.
30/03 - 2009 at 1:25
I have not seen this addressed so pardon the redundancy if someone else has already mentioned this. I bought the Epson 600 today, mostly for the built-in WiFi. I set it up and it seems to work great out of the box over my wireless network running 2 PCs and a Mac in my house. I was led to believe that I would need to turn every sheet for duplex printing, but printing all odd pages of a document in reverse order, flipping the entire stack, then printing all even pages in reverse order makes duplex printing a snap (at least for Word docs and pdfs.
2/04 - 2009 at 9:39
I agree with “do not buy this printer if you are using it on a network.” It does not work properly, when you first install it, everything is great but then it all goes away and the only way to get the printer to work is to tun it off and back on every time you want to use it. Otherwise all you get is a communication error. The printer will not respond to printing or scanning… you must turn it off and back on, that’s crap. This printer is worthless as a network printer. Please save yourself the pain of trying to get in touch with Epson Tech Support. If you do this by email, you will have the horror of them either having no clue what’s going on or better yet, sending you a random fix to print quality issues… what the hell does that have to do with network communication errors? Maybe “network” and “nozzle” are the same word in India… Good luck to all, do yourself a favor and stay as far from this printer as possible if you are looking for a network printer.

I found a Bluetooth section on the setup screen, but can not find any reference to Bluetooth connection in the documentation paperwork or on-line? Does it work?

This printer eats up ink like a Hummer! I print a lot of color copies, and even with the larger ink cartridege option, I am going to the store for ink 2x a week. This printer is good for home use, but if you have to use it for office, plan on stocking up on ink. Its actually cheaper to by a more expensive HP printer with larger print capibilities than this this one. I am going back to HP!

Bare with me on this review because it has been a long frustrating experience.
I went to Fry’s early February 2009 for a printer. The sales person suggested the WorkForce 600 and said it was the greatest printer for the price. Not knowing much about printers and computers, I took his word for it and made the purchase.
I went home, set the printer up and printed a few pages with no problem. About a week later I went to print a page a got the “paper jam” error. I checked the printer and there was no paper jam. I called Epson and the first thing they said was that they had not heard of that problem with the printer. Finally they decided to send me a first replacement. Days later I received it and set it up and the same “paper jam” error occurred. So I called Epson again. They decided to send me a second replacement printer. A few days later I received it, set it up and the same “paper jam” error occurred. So, I called Epson AGAIN. So, they decided to send me a third replacement printer. A few days later I received it, set it up and I got the same “PAPER JAM” error. You guessed it, I called Epson AGAIN! I was finally able to talk to some one in the U. S. that actually spoke English. Epson rep told me that the three replacement printers they had sent me were all refurbished. She said they were going to send me a new printer replacement. YES, this is now the fourth replacement printer. I just received it yesterday (4/8). I was looking forward to setting it up and having a new printer that works. So, I set it up, tried printing a page AND GOT THE “PAPER JAM” ERROR AGAIN.
I now have the fifth EPSON WORKFORCE 600 PIECE OF JUNK IN MY HOME with the “PAPER JAM” error.
So here is my solution. I am going to take the printer to my back yard along with my Remi 12 gauge and blow the piece of _ _ _ _ up! At least I’ll get some pleasure out of this whole mess.
9/04 - 2009 at 14:54
I don’t know about the paper jams, I’m still using mine, and have not had one paper jam yet.
as for networking, yes it goes off the network if you do not use it for a while, it goes into sleep mode essentially to save power, which of course means turning off the networking, but for me this is only if I don’t use it for several days.
10/04 - 2009 at 14:18
Does anyone know how to scan from the printer to the Pc? I am fine with the reverse. Could I be missing something obvious? I follow the instructions on the LCD panel. When I select scan to PC or PDF nothing seems to happen! What I am I doing wrong, who will help me????
10/04 - 2009 at 22:46
To LeRoy…you made my day..I laughed so hard I almost fell off of my chair….I was just looking for somone who has had problems with ink not working……..I put in 3 new cartridges and the only ones that printed were black and magenta……….terrible expense when the cartridges won’t work……Anyone else having problems with ink not “working” ……..So far only two paper jams …I could correct………..Billie Ann

The Epson WOrkforce 600 SUCKS! I had one for a week, it was broken. SO epson sent us another for a lot more money than we payed when we got the broken one. And now on our new one, the scan doesn’t work, the inks aren’t moving, and its like its not getting a full wireless signal. IT SUCKS!!! NO ONE GET THIS STUPID PRINTER/SCANER!!!!!!!
20/04 - 2009 at 2:17
To Billie Ann Huber
I have four sets of ink cartridges. You are welcome to have them if you’ll pay the postage. My email address is dindaadaa@live.com. Send me your address and I’ll send you the cartridges.
20/04 - 2009 at 5:19
Initially I satisfied with this printer even with couple problems of drivers & utility softwares. But one big problem I had was it failed to load paper when I tried to print couple pages and it reported kind of “paper jam” errors and continuously tried to reload paper while it still failed to do so.
The worst problem was here whenever it tried to reload paper it would inject inks to the nozzles and it actually consumed a lot of inks. Virtually it wasted half of ink for each color cartridge in 5 mins while it was trying to reload the paper. Only solution was couple times of powercycle. Don’t know how to recover the ink cost now.

I’ve been using the WF 600 for about 6 weeks on my combined Mac/PC/Linux network. Printing and scanning to both Mac/PC work fine. I was able to get the printer working via wired network printing with my SuSE Linux system (the nerve!) very easily. Although not supported by Epson, it will work with some minor tweaks.
Very satisfied with the printer.
5/05 - 2009 at 2:17
My WF 600 gives me a ‘paper jam’ error, and I cannot use it any more. Twice it happened that it gave the jam error. The first time I I followed the instruction about opening the scan table and removing the paper. I did and then it printed again. The second time it jammed I did the same but it keeps giving the error message.
It is possible that a small piece of paper, that I cannot see, got stuck inside, but I cannot find anywhere in the documentation how to remove it.
The sad thing is that i got rid of my HP because it was flaky, and bought Epson.
What do you people say is a better quality alternative?
Thanks.
9/05 - 2009 at 23:14
Anyone know if there is a driver or override to the Black Ink issue of not being able to print if ANY color is out? This is a MAJOR deal breaker.
14/05 - 2009 at 3:59
Bill in Escondido’s post has the correct answer for the Fax Receiving problem with an Answering Machine turned ON. I also struggled and finally found that the Answering Machine has to be moved from elsewhere to where the printer is. You have to plug the answering machine into the EXT port. The wall jack has to go into the LINE port. Now # of Rings on the Ans. Machine must be lower than on the fax. Epson support is worthless. After describing my problem about not knowing which line should go where, their answer was ‘the answering machine has to go into either the EXT or the LINE port’ - DUH - how much more ambiguous can one be. (Don’t quit the day job) Hope my frustration that is now solved has helped someone else. I just received my first fax and feel like I’ve graduated. What a struggle - I was about to return the Artisan 800, but now I’ll keep it.
18/05 - 2009 at 19:54
To all the folks who are getting false paper jam alarms. Epson sent me a replacement and I got the same jams with no paper jammed. The problem is pre-drilled paper. If you are using 2 or 3 hole paper, you will get a paper jam message when there is no jam. I took the issue as high as I could with Epson Support and the answer I got is 3-hole paper is not an authorized paper. You will only get the jam message if the holes are on the right side. If the holes are on the left side you won’t get the message. I have other Epson printers that print on 3 hole paper even though 3-hole paper isn’t an authorized paper. So I think their answer is BS.
18/05 - 2009 at 20:01
hmm.. I’ve never used holed paper with my printers… this is new to me.. just never saw a reason to use paper with holes, but I guess it has its uses
18/05 - 2009 at 20:02
I use my phone for both voice and fax. I have a Radio Shack switch to separate voice from fax. I’m quite sure my 1st WF600 printed faxes it received thru the switch. But the replacement sent by Epson to “solve” the paper jam problem won’t receive the fax from the switch. Before I returned the 1st one, I copied all the settings over to the new machine. The switch directs the call to the WF600. I can hear the fax ringing inside the WF600, but the WF600 never picks up. I’ve tried it set to 1 ring and 2 rings. I’m going to try 4 rings but I’m not confident it will make any difference.
13/06 - 2009 at 20:37
This printer is a piece of shit. I also noticed that “real epson tech guy” failed to answer the question/scam that epson is running about not being able to use your printer if just one cartridge of ink runs out. So I have a full cartridge of black, and nearly full cartridges of yellow and the other color, but since I’m out of cyan my printer is now worthless and taking up space until i get just one cyan cartridge. I’m moving soon and i plan to abandon this bullshit printer in my old house and go purchase the ever reliable HP brand.
13/06 - 2009 at 21:05
I am trying to print a booklet on my new WF600 and the pages are coming out in the wrong sequence.
They should be:
sheet 1 side 1 front cover & back cover, side 2 intention blank page & last page (LP)
sheet 2 side 1 page 1 & LP - 1, side 2 page 2 & LP - 2
sheet 3 side 1 page 3 & LP - 3, side 2 page 4 & LP - 4
etc
I’m getting:
sheet 1 side 1 front cover & page 2, side 2 intention blank page & page 1
sheet 2 side 1 page 3 & LP-11, side 2 page 4 & page 5
sheet 3 side 1 page 7 & LP - 7, side 2 page 8 & LP - 8
etc
The result being you’d have to fold each sheet separately and bind them somehow rather than folding the whole thing as a unit and stapling down the center as in a magazine or newspaper. Anybody else tried this yet?
16/06 - 2009 at 15:19
PAPER JAM!!
That’s right - another paper jam issue. This is the 2nd time my wf600 has had this problem. I tried emailing the “help desk” & received the “take the paper out- clear the jam” - duh…. I’m guessing if you’re not smart enough to figure that out, you’re probably not smart enough to email the help desk either. Then I called the non-toll-free # (even though my printer is under “warranty”), got a non-English-speaking “tech” who basically read from a script - didn’t actually answer any questions I asked. Then, asked me for my credit card # before he would send a replacement - in 5-7 days! So…. I think not! And no, I wasn’t using hole-punched paper.
Sorry to rant & rave, but really so frustrated!

I’ve read many reviews on the Epson WF600 all-in-one unit, and have decided to hold off making my purchase of a new AIO unit. Sounds like Epson may not have all the bugs out yet. I currently have an Epson CX4200 which has been terrific, but is dying slowly, hence the need to replace. It was a great price too; free w/the purchase of our new G5 iMac computer 5 years ago. I love my MAC too! The CX4200 has been a true work horse as our company prints many sales receipts from it daily. So, for 5 years w/out fail, this machine has performed top- notch. However, the paper feed seems to be failing as it does not want to pull the paper through. After reading mixed reviews on the WF600, I’m considering seeing if my old CX4200 is fixable and if so, if its cost effective to do so. Any suggestions/comments, and/or tips are welcomed from former CX4200 users.

Just a note to Epson Workforce600 users and/or those considering purchasing it regarding ink cartridges. Remans are available from inkquik.com. Price range is $7 - $8/ea. and are backed by their 30/180 guarantee w/flat rate shipping of only $3.95. I’ve purchased from inkquik for years and have never had anything but positive experiences. Any issues that have arisen have always been promptly and courteously taken care of. I highly recommend inkquik to anyone using a home or business printer
