Hi: I received this unit as a Christmas gift & we had research similar units before choosing this one. We were replacing an older analog mini portable tv so our primary focus was on the tv end & we didn't look into the dvd aspect at all. I guess we just figured since portable dvd players have been around for a long time we just never really considered the fact there might be problems to consider.
Well unfortunately the DVD player on this unit has MAJOR issues. Initially I was pretty excited about the unit. Since the TV was the big thing for me that was the 1st thing I tried out. I had already looked into the possible digital channels I might receive & I knew my options were slim so I wasn't expecting anything more. I was pleasantly surprised at being able to pick up the whopping 8-10 channels I did pick up but disappointed that I could not pick up NBC. I picked up CBS & ABC but I don't know what's going on w/ NBC - maybe someone else can answer that for me? I'm thinking it's scrambled but then why aren't CBS or ABC? I also picked up Fox, some funky PBS stations and Retro TV along w/ some weather channels & sports channels. Not much but enough to pass the time. The picture was very good - no complaints on picture quality. I also really liked the antenna not being attached to the unit like others I had looked at. This allows for you to move it around to get better reception & it's magnetized to hold in place on metal items. Next, I tried DVD's & immediately had problems arise. The DVD I was playing kept freezing up. I thought maybe it had a scratch or was dirty but that did not seem to be the issue. I tried 5-6 other DVD's with the same & even worse problems. They stop/freeze up, pixelate, the picture would break up into 4-5 horizontal sections across the screen. Then it really started wigging out: the set up menu would pop up & jump all over my screen - while the DVD was playing -just a mess! Adding to my frustration was that whenever the DVD froze up it was not an easy thing to start it up again. Most times I had to shut the machine off & reboot the DVD. The DVD is supposed to remember where it stopped last & pick up from there - sometimes this worked but I'd say 3 out of 5 times I'd be right back at the beginning of the DVD & then have to fast forward to where I left off.
I hoped this was just a problem with my unit - after all it had received such good reviews & I did not recall anyone mentioning DVD issues. So I returned it for a replacement. Guess what???? Same darn problems. I took it w/ on a road trip & immediately the DVD started freezing up. Ok, so maybe it was a bumpy road? NOT - we were driving on a newly paved interstate. Just to be sure I did check it out on stable ground when I got home & the same thing. I don't get it - DVD players have been around for ions. There's portable DVD players on buses & anyone w/ a newer SUV probably has one in their vehicle. If stability was a common issue you would be hearing way more complaints. So what's the deal w/ this Envizen player? I don't know but I am really disappointed to have to now return my 2nd unit. Someone in quality control really missed the boat on this one - but then maybe that's why they are all on sale for $100 or more off? Folks, it pains me to say it but don't waste your time or money on this one. Before buying the unit I emailed Envizen with some questions & surprisingly rec'd a prompt, detailed reply which really impressed me & also played a role in my choosing their product. So I really do hope the folks at Envizen fix this problem because if they do they will have a really nice product for the money. In the meantime look elsewhere & if anyone can tell me a good reliable portable Digital TV/DVD unit to purchase I sure would appreciate the input!

I recieved this unit for Xmas and thought it was great, that is until I tried watching a movie. The movie kept freezing up and I had to restart it several times. I never got through with a movie before I gave up in total frustration. I returned it and got another one only to have the same problem. I tried several new DVD's so I know that wasn't it. I guess I'll try and find a different one.

Did you test the unit using an external hard drive or did you just use a USB flash drive? Thanks, great review and pics!

I own this unit and am having trouble with reception. Can anyone tell what antenna to use with this unit. I have tried a couple and they do not work. I am interested in one not requiring power if that is possible. One requiring power would be an improvement. Any help would be appreciated. My email address is thekelpins@att.net Thanks

I just received the Envizen portable DVD player with ATSC TV. Over all this is a nice setup, but the biggest disappointment is that you CANNOT connect it to your cable service, even though it has a coaxial adapter. So you are very limited in the channels you will receive. But this will work when there is a power outage and I will be able to get 6 local channels. I just wish I could get my cable channels with it. :(
