Cyberlink Power Director Ultra v7
Online video has become extremely popular, everyone on from children to grandparents are getting in on the action, but let’s be honest, it’s not all the greatest stuff out there. Video editing can do wonders for a video, and adding titles, music, and special effect can really make your videos stand out from the rest, and that’s what we want right? We want our content to get noticed and seen by as many people as possible.
Cyberlink is a popular company when it comes to most anything video related, they’ve got several products to allow one to play, burn create and edit videos, and today I’m taking a look at the latest version of their Power Director, it’s version 7, Ultra edition. The Ultra edition on it means that it can do things the regular version can’t like supporting more file types. For the most part though it’s the same as the other non-ultra versions with a few minor changes and additions.
If you’ve been reading our reviews then you’ve seen our unboxing videos, I’ve used Power Director v7 for most of them, to edit them, create the titles, effects and other thing included with the videos. It’s a great program, that can be easy to use for the beginner and does offer advanced features for the more experienced video producing crowd.
There are several main features to Power Director 7, once you start up the program you are greeted with the main window where you can add files to the program to be edited. On this screen you’ll see several picture icons down along the left side, and a few choices across the top as well.
Down the side we’ve got icons for Files, Effects, PiP Objects, Text, Transitions, Audio, Recording, Chapter Creation and further editing.
At the bottom of the main interface we’ve got a familiar timeline style interface as well that you can drag and drop items to if you wish from the main window, or you can right click on them for an option to appear for sending them to a specific part of the timeline.
Across the top are options for:
Capture for capturing video and audio from outside sources
Edit for editing obviously
Produce for actually creating or producing your finished movie
Create Disc to create a disc.

Here’s a basic pictorial step-by-step of creating a movie, adding the file, adding text, title and final creation. Here you’ll see adding effects and text and producing the movie by selecting the file format and final conversion or creation.
To create your movie, it’s fairly simple and the longest part is actually creating the movie or encoding it to your selected file format.
One thing I did notice though is that Power Director seems to create final file sizes that are larger than other programs do, I’m guessing it has to do with their file compression system. You can of course change the settings, file format, audio quality and video size to help bring the size of the completed movie down.

Instead of embedding movies into the review, here are a couple links to a few movies I created using Power Director 7:

Nice program to use, but I do have another con: when saving your project, for some reason it doesn’t save the speedchanges in your project. Which means that when re-opening the project another time, the speed of the changed clips have been set back to 1x, while the duration of the clip hasn’t changed. That’s quite annoying!!
Can it be that I don’t know how to fix this, or is this an issue of the software? Who can tell me?
I wish I had someone to help me decide on what editing program I should buy. I’m new to editing and don’t want to throw away $100.00. Is this power director the best bang for the buck? Or should I consider Nero, Roxio or Adobe the $100.00 version?
HELP Thanks
PowerDirector crashes when trying to save project.
When I import mp3 files into the program, occurred a error and don’t import this files.

I have exactly the same problem on two(!) systems using an AMD CPU and running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. The problem does not occur on my laptop with Vista Ultimate 32 bit using an Intel CPU.
Anyone more with these experiences?

hi all, well my advice is to get sony vegas or sony movie studio (slightly less features) Why these? because they are very reliable and rock solid. I have tried the lot including adobe premiere and sony is the best because of how reliable it is. To learn how to use it just go to youtube and watch some videos. I like Dillons vidoes. Power director is ok but doesnt have the realiability of sony. Any adobe premiere sometimes freezes and is sluggish.
As soon as i click CREATE DISC, it gices me an error message saying:(PDR.exe) Components initialization failed. There might have been problems during the installation. Please install again. Then right after i close that window it says:(Power Director) Create Disc Page initializing error! Components initialization failed. There might have been problems during installation. Please install again.—->well we all see the obvious solution, but we’ve tried that and it didn’t work. PlEASE HELP. THANK YOU
All you need to do is click on directors zone, login/register and download a dvd menu. double click, it will install and you can now burn
Click directors zone, login/register download a dvd menu double click and try again!
Crash, crash, crash. I have 4 gigs of RAM, Athlon X2 video card, can run anything but this. I burned one disk, now it just crashes when I click “create DVD”. So what? Reinstall? Again? This should not happen. And I am not the only one… the web is full of the exact same complaint, which Cyberlink apparently will not address. Very poor software…
I’ve been using PowerDirector 6, for 2 years…it crashes regularly, especially when there are moving titles. Last week, it crashed 30 times when making an 8 minute video. Unless Cyberlink has cleaned up their act and debugged their software, I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m moving on to Sony Vegas studio.
So glad im not going crazy, thinking that my comp was
no good. i just purchase cyberlink ultra suite 7 and it crashes once
i start to working on it……i have 4GB
of free ram and was thinking of buying more but it seem that
the software is the issue.
im looking into sony vega but not until i make
more research.
Just incase any one finds a solution for this issue
please let us now….
for mel: I’ve tried what you said. Closed RichVideo but no changes. I still get error at 92% “Burning Failed! Error code: c0040004″
I Have a Great Interest in Multimedia Field .That’s Why I accepted This but the problem is that I have trial version Software .I don’t know how to purchase this software.Could you help me.
Hey! I need help! I try to transfer itunes music to power director but it dosent let me! How do i transfer it to the power director?
Hey every body! I just discover why my cyberlink crashes. I notice that
if i upload a corrupted vid to cyberlink will freeze and uses all my CPU because it’s trying to
recognize it. Once i removed the vid from my computuer cyberlink started to work better than ever…jejejejeje….Now, I just have to be very carefull that i dont use any personal/youtube vid or any that is corrupted or it willmake my computer/cyberlink go crazy….
Well good luck to every body! hope you guys find a solution to your problems….XD
D Hi this is Joe,,,
Ok I have the same issue with error 8007000e.
Ok this was my first option so I won’t get error 8007000e. Please read both option before you do anything…..option 1 and option 2 can either go either way…
- I am assuming that some videos that I use or back ground on my project are some how corrupted and cyber link software can’t recognize it.
Create a File for your project.
1) Ok go to produce-Select create a file(Next) -Select .Avi & Avi High Quality Profile(Next)-Save it to you’re computer or any where you can find it and finally -Start rendering. Ok once it’s done you need to close Cyberlink then open it again and
(Import media) import you’re file and then start creating you’re CD.
This has helped the most but in case it doesn’t work try the second option.
2) I deleted my project and started fresh…..
Yes I know it’s so frustrating. Deleted some stuff and replace them
with something else …some times when you download vid from YouTube or use background images from the internet can really make cyberlink go crazy. Make sure you trust the website before you download.
I hope this help’s you….If you find solution to you’re problems don’t forget to tell us about it…it will help us much….
Thank you guys….
