Arkista’s Ring is pretty tough.

Growing up I also found Megaman series to be pretty hard, until I came face to face with Megaman 9 for XBOX360 and PS3….yeah it’s a throwback to the retro days but the difficulty is upped so much higher. If it were a cart I would’ve broken it in two by now.

Everyone would say Touhou Project is the hardest, when in all reality it’s pretty easy, just overwhelming to look at. The concept teaches you that little by little and baby steps is all you need to beat a flashy game ^_^

Castlevania series isn’t too terrible in difficulty, but let’s have a look at the first one. Anyone remember when it was first released? I know it wasn’t just me cos there were many people complaining about the game cos once you got to Death, if you didn’t kill him in a certain amount of time, the game would freeze. It happened to my first cart of it back when it first came out when I was a kid, and about a month ago, I learned I wasn’t the only one pissed about the glitch.

Top Gun…..don’t get me started on that damn game. Yeah the action was easy as hell but LANDING THE PLANE WAS HARD AS HELL!!! XD LOL

If anyone can complain about a video game for how hard it is, or how pointless it is, my inspiration comes from the Angry Video Game Nerd. Watch his videos if you haven’t yet, cos he speaks the royal truth about these games that we all speak of. The ones that make us want to rip our hair out.

I agree with a lot of the comments on this board. You all have great taste in difficult games.

I have a recommendation for everyone that views my comment. If you haven’t checked it out, Warning Forever is probably hands down the worlds most hardest game. You mix bullet hell with a game that lasts forever and you have yourself a game that is so difficult. With no end in sight, every time you beat the boss, he comes back bigger and badder than before. If you make it to level 25, I bid you good luck as I couldn’t dodge anything at that point. It was TOO HARD. To get to level 25, though, took a whopping month and a half of practice. At one point, level 12 was too hard. Once you have a strategy though, you will just keep getting better and better. My point about level 25, though, is that the boss fills the whole screen, and moves around. On top of that, there are shots coming at you from every direction. Good luck dodging THAT. >_<"

Another difficult game for NES is Abadox. It’s similar to R-Type and Gradius, but it only takes one bullet to kill you, causing you to lose all your powerups.

I’m amazed none of the Lolo games for the NES made the list. I’m currently playing Lolo 3 and it’s so hard I want to gouge my own eyeballs out sometimes.

Where’s Super Mario Bros. : The Lost Levels(aka Super-Mario-Bros-2-japan-deemed-too-hardcore-for-americans)? It didn’t even get an honorable mention, when it in fact was around 5 times more difficult than one of the ones that did, Metroid. Metroid= not a hard game. SMB:LL= ridiculous game. Sure, it doesn’t even come close to the likes of Ghosts and Goblins, but it sure as hell beats out Super Monkey Ball; by the measure of anyone I have ever talked to who has played both.

This list seems appropriate. I especially like how you put I Wanna Be the Guy on the list. I’m playing it now. Some people call me crazy for it, but I love that game. It’s difficulty is quite a stress reliever. It also adds stress, but that depends on the player.

How about Metal Gear? The 1st one. That game really sucked. How about Commando? Another insanely difficult game. I will agree with Contra being 1 of the worst games in the world. Ghosts n Goblins, trying to actually make it anywhere in that shitty game was like pulling teeth. The worst part about Ghosts n Goblins was the fact that the friggin clock would run out and you automatically died. What the hell is that about!

Fester’s Quest, BITE ME! God I hated that game. I played Solomon’s Key once, once. That it was it for me with that crappy game. I played it for 10 minutes and it was 10 minutes too long.

I kinda miss insanely fast Mach 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT37Vfj9dGA) here – even on the 286 I first played this game on, keeping up with the pace (well, mach 3 IS fast…) seemed next to impossible.

I agree with the previous comment regarding Super R-type. It was one of my favorite and most
hated games back in the day.

I also remember an Atari 2600 game called Sword Quest that I eventually shot up with a bb-gun.
I absolutely hated this game… it just didn’t make sense… totally unclear what you were meant to
do while you wondered from screen to screen.

Thanks for the list. I enjoyed reliving some of my more frustrating childhood gaming.

Another game that shoud be added to the list is Super R-type. Im a very experienced gamer and even with abusing save states and on the easiest difficullty the game still took me a week to beat. But on the normal system its near impossible. You have to go threw all 7 levels and bosses without dying should you die you have to restart at level 1. The furthest ive made it without save states is level 4 its just insanity.
