A toy, really

 • Excerpt: I got this binocular to record birds and for when I take my wife whale-watching. I had the perfect opportunity to test them today when a flock of red-maked parakeets (think The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill) converged on a tree in my back yard. I took my Canon 5DmkIII with a 70-300m f/4-5.6L IS and the DEV-3. I shouldn't have bothered with the latter.

The DEV-3 is basically 2 camcorder-class digicams with zoom telephoto lenses.
 • Cons: Bulky, Poor Image Quality, Poor User Interface

Not your typical binocular

 • Excerpt: I used this for bird-watching and though it did not have the optical reach that I would've liked for it's price, it was good enough that I was able to see with enough detail the birds/raptors that I was scouting. I also took it whale-watching and it did get a little wet, but comparable to a very light rain. it was still okay and didn't suffer anything. I wouldn't recommend getting it wet though.
 • Pros: Coolness Factor, Quality Lenses, Works Well With Glasses
 • Cons: Bulky, Heavy

Jackpot first time out!

 • Summary: Why only four stars? Well they are a little cumbersome and the controls are not as handy as they could be. I have only just got them and am still struggling a little with the record and zoom controls and occasionally hit a wrong button whilst trying to hold them. I suspect this is inevitable to some degree given how you hold them and the fact the buttons etc need to be somewhere near your fingers. I run "Sea Trust" a marine conservation charity based in West Wales.
