Summary: We are avid "birders" who own numerous pairs of binoculars, several of which are much more expensive. We own 2 pairs of these binoculars and have bought another pair as a gift. For the money, this is an outstanding product. Its most impressive feature is the ability to close focus (on butterflies, for example); distance viewing is also quite good. We also own the 6 power version but prefer the 8. Very highly recommended.
Excerpt: Not waterproof, a significant drawback for a bino designed for field use. The rain cover for the eyepieces slips off easily and will not stay in place - easily lost. The 8.5 X 21 has a very small field of view, very difficult to find your subject, especially if it is moving. Consider the 6.5 X 21 with a larger field of view, even though final magnification is less. Close focus is very nice.
Pros: Close Focus, Compact, Lightweight
Cons: Difficult To Focus, Not Waterproof, Small field of view
Excerpt: I bought this for my wife. She normally uses 8x42 Pentax and Loves them. Only problem is, she is always backing up when wanting to look at something close. She really didn't even want to try these but I ordered them anyway for her to try.. They arrived promptly and packaged well. She immediately fell in love with the light weight, fast focusing, CLOSE focusing, and bright views!! She also likes the screw down eyepiece design, versus the fold down on her older models.
