excellent gen1 nightvision. great value

  • Excerpt: I have a few gen1 night vision monoculars and this one by far has the best vision at the farthest range. I have an NHT 42mm gen1 and a 20mm gen1 and this unit sees detail and distance better than either. NHT cost more and the smaller about the same. The 50mm lense makes most of it and the higher lines of pickup add to that. You need to go to gen3 to gain anything over this.

  • Excerpt: This optic was larger than I expected and doesn't produce images of much use. This was purchased for police work and I was attracted by the great price. You get what you pay for.
  • Cons: Blurry Image, Bulky, Poor Contrast

  • Summary: I returned it. Very dissatisfied. Worked well for objects less than 10 feet away. Greater than that, just let your eyes adjust.

Good product

  • Excerpt: I've only had this for a few days but so far am very happy with it. Very well-made and durable. Clear images once you understand how it works. The only issues I have are that the lens cap will not stay on (I've contacted te company but no response yet.) and the bag is a little too tight fitting so it makes it a little difficult to take out and put back quickly. It was also a little larger than I expected but I didn't check the dimensions very carefully beforehand.
  • Pros: Clear Image, Good Contrast, Weather-proof

  • Summary: This is my second night vision monocular by Night Owl. The first one (a much older version) quit working for some unknown reason, so I recommend the warranty. The image is much clearer than older versions by Night Owl (not as grainy) but please know that this IS NOT Gen II! In fact, when researching differences in night vision, Gen I night vision (which this is) is supposed to have at least 1000x light gain. This one touts 500x light gain...

  • Summary: Sharp visual and very good for Gen. 1. I'm ex-Army and found it to be as sharp as the night vision goggles I used then. Only drawback, field of view is very small.
