Summary: I have always wanted a good pair of binoculars but never knew where to start looking. I was recently in a local camera store and the owner showed me this pair. I was amazed at the clarity. I did a lot of research and found that this pair was a great investment and the quality of lens was equivalent to much higher priced models. I believe these binoculars are soon to be sold out and will no longer be manufactured but perhaps other Canon models may be comparable.
Summary: The optics and build quality are top notch. These are made in Japan, not China like most others in this price range. They are waterproof, but not fogproof. They are rugged, but not shockproof. The 7X magnification may seem low, but I prefer it because there isn't as much shake and bounce from your body movements. 7X is sufficient for nature obversation or sporting events. The 42mm objective lens allows a lot of light in, and these binos are great in low light situations.
Summary: I ordered these together with a pair of Fujinon's 16x70 binoculars, it's amazing how different these two are. Both are incredibly well made and seem to be the kind of thing that lasts a long time and keeps working fine. The Fujinon's have amazing image, but they're really hard to hold still. Such a large magnification can only be used with a tripod; they're also independent focus, which makes the tripod usage almost mandatory.
Pros: Close Focus, Compact, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction, Works Well With Glasses
Summary: Excellent binoculars, clear, bright & crisp views, comfortable and easy on the eyes, great magnification and detail. Easily rivals 8 x . Quality construction and glass. Excellent instrument regardless of price. Problems Encountered: None.
Summary: I did extensive research before I purchased a Canon 7x42A binocular. I checked out all the top brands, including Leitz and Steiner, but settled on the Canon due to it's very bright image (via a large exit pupil) and it's reputation for excellent optics. I was not disappointed by the Canon's performance. Images are tack sharp, with great brightness and good contrast.
